denoir Posted July 21, 2011 Share #21 Â Posted July 21, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Of course, so do I but the images will be scaled there anyway and I don't use them for seriously looking at and evaluating photos. There is no need to restrict things to the lowest common denominator - especially as the browsers in the mobile devices will format the page and scale the images to fit the device. Jeff S Posted July 21, 2011 Share #22 Â Posted July 21, 2011 I don't see why people on this forum would be any different. If anything given that Leica gear isn't exactly inexpensive you'd also expect to see more people with high end monitors. Â The real surprise for me is how many people rely on computer displays of any kind as their primary means to view photographs. Well, I guess not really surprising given the digital age, but disappointing that more folks don't focus on the print as the primary output. Â I still spend my time making prints, and that's the only reason for my owning a 'high end' monitor; same reason I owned a decent darkroom in my film days. And when I want to see the work of others, it's usually at a show or gallery, or perhaps in a high quality book. Â Ok, back to the topic... Jerry_R Posted July 21, 2011 Share #23 Â Posted July 21, 2011 Strange, this is Internet forum. It is natural to share some photos, as it is photography forum. Or we should only treat it as gear forum? Â One of benefits is, that people living many kilometers from galleries can be still inspired by others work. Or find satisfaction, fun. Yes - word fun is very valid. Many photo threads on different forums are named like "Fun with..." where "..." can mean kind of camera or system. Â I have started such thread about u43 system on one of biggest polish forum and people love it. I regularly watch such M thread on FM and GetDPI. It is real pleasure and inspiration. Â Without it I would NEVER see photos of for example Denoir, which inspired me a lot. Â I always put a link to my photos stored externally, never load my pictures to a forum DB. Long time ago I was regularly watching photography-on-the-net forum photo samples grouped by lenses, that was very educating as well. Â Who wants and have regular possibility of going to galleries - absolutely fine. But sharing pictures bigger than thumbnails on photo forum is also good idea in my mind. pop Posted July 21, 2011 Share #24 Â Posted July 21, 2011 ... especially as the browsers in the mobile devices will format the page and scale the images to fit the device. Â You might be a fine photographer. Clearly, your knowledge about mobile devices and the internet has areas where enhancement is possible. Â The mobile device will - at first - take an unholy amount of time at an unreasonable cost to download the page with the images at the original resolution. It then will downscale the page and the images to the size of a postcard or even a picture stamp. Since the mobile device limits the amount of memory available for caching the pages, it will discard the page in memory when it loads the next one with the images, so that it will have to read the previous page with all its images again when you click on the "back" icon, thus causing you again to wait much time and to spend money just for fetching the same pages again and again. thighslapper Posted July 23, 2011 Share #27  Posted July 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) All I can say is thank god for the current image size limits.......  I live barely 2km from the nearest large town but we still have an internet speed that has not improved in the last 5 years ........ 600k is just about manageable..... anything larger is a source of frustration.  I have been downloading the latest Mac OS (Lion) now for 2 days  I have to admit thet 600k images give any casual observer no clue whatsoever of the fantastic quality and detail of M9 images ... which is a terrible shame.  In fact I can see monitor quality/resolution and internet bandwidth being the main driver of increasing camera chip resolution in future rather than the limits set by printed enlargement criteria.......
