jslbb Posted July 12, 2011 Share #43 Posted July 12, 2011 For travel and outside photos, I cheat and use my MATE. However, on the MATE I use 35 and 50 about equally and 28 less. Jim

zlatkob Posted July 24, 2011 Share #49 Posted July 24, 2011 HCB apparently also used the 35mm for "Hyères, France, 1932" - In the footsteps of Cartier Bresson

glacierparkmagazine Posted July 24, 2011 Share #51 Posted July 24, 2011 21, 35, 50 is just about perfect for what I do. We have a lot of tight valleys and the 21 is a great landscape lens. The 35 is in-between and then the 50 is a perfect focal length for one landscape I shoot regularly.

ramosa Posted July 25, 2011 Share #53 Posted July 25, 2011 He did excellently imo, but the 35mm he very, very rarely ever used. "Kids at the Berlin wall" and what else? I agree. Moreover, I can only think of a few (e.g., the distant tapestries/blankets being spread out in India) with a 90. Who knows ... but he seems to have used 50 most, followed by 35 and then 90. Not a foolish approach to (humbly) try to follow.

menos I M6 Posted July 25, 2011 Share #57 Posted July 25, 2011 Hello I know this might look like non sense, but wondering for those using a 50mm lens as their primary lens on the M9 ( ie they are 50mm instead of 35mm) if they would prefer to 35mm or 28mm on the wide end ? i see a lot of 35/50/90 and just wondering about a 28/50/90 setup.... I mainly use a 50 lux and as a wider lens to have I was debating among other : elmarit 28 asph, 35 summarit or a used 35 cron (IV) Thanks a lot Vadim Vadim, this is personal. Many will advice on a 28, as it has the "more useful, as much wider, than 50 factor". Personally though, I found, that I don't like 28mm. I ended up, selling my 28 Cron ASPH some weeks ago, as it sat completely unused, while I loved my 35 Lux on film and now on the M9 as the wide lens. In your case, I would pick either the 35 Cron (although prices get silly on these nowadays and a nice second hand Lux is not far away) or the 35 Summarit for it's fantastic small size and weight. ramosa Posted July 25, 2011 Share #59 Posted July 25, 2011 I agree with menos. It is so darn personal. I simply wouldn't use a 28 on a FF. In fact, for an M9, I'm wrestling with whether I should have a top two-lens combo (either 35-50 or 35-90) or a three-lens kit with a top 50 and good (but not great) 35 and 90. It's great to get advice ... as it can help you reconsider things and garner new perspectives.

I tried framing with the 28mm and the line are a bit annoying....harder to see ! Anyways I agree with you regarding a 35/50/90. I think I will go with the 35summarit. A three lens kit with a top 50 is really what I like. the 50lux is really an awesome and could just go with that one.
