wimpel Posted July 3, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted July 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Today, my X1 finally arrived. I have been playing with it all day. Great camera. Â There is one thing however. When I focus the camera makes a strange noise as if it has trouble focussing. I heared other camera's making the same kind of noise when they can't lock on the subject, especially in low light. My Leica however makes this noise everytime it focusses. Also in bright light condition when it focusses fast. It sounds like a cracking noise. Is this normal or do I need to go back to the store? Â Thanks for your comments. Â Wim. Advertisement Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Hi wimpel, Take a look here Noise when focussing. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Sgt93 Posted July 3, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted July 3, 2011 Without mine arriving yet but coming from a pro frame D3s with older and new lenses, I would assume it is the lens motor making noises as it is trying to lock in.
wimpel Posted July 3, 2011 Author Share #3 Â Posted July 3, 2011 Yes, it is the motor trying to lock in. I am wondering if this is normal? Do all X1's have this?
Lightwrangler Posted July 3, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted July 3, 2011 Try to remove the battery, it will help to avoid the sound. Â Â Seriously: Usually there will always be kind of a "normal", buzzing AF-motor-sound. If something sounds "cracking" there might be a problem. Show it to somebody at a Leica shop. Sgt93 Posted July 3, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted July 3, 2011 You would have hated my Nikon 85mm f/1.4D. Noisy as heck but stunning images. I liked the old school sound compared to my newer "G" lenses.
ECliffordSmith Posted July 3, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted July 3, 2011 Hi, Â If the sound you are hearing resembles a short grunt on quick focus lock and series of longer noises as the focus hunts then this is quite normal. Â Congratulations on your new camera.

Cracking sound isn't what I would describe mine. I would describe mine more like a cats purr motor
