MarkP Posted July 2, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 2, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) a camera insert bag thread:D: Haven (M) (click on the little white dots under the image of the bag to see it from other angles) The Haven (in S,M & L) is fairly new from Crumpler (a good Australian company) and just drops into any other bag or backpack. I saw them for the first time today in the original Sydney Crumpler store in Newtown, and bought one in medium for when I'm taking out one of my other non-camera backpacks (Tumi, Source, etc). Very well designed, constructed, and padded as expected from Crumpler. Snugly fits the M9 with one lens fitted, 2 other lenses on the sides, and a number of accessories. bill Posted July 2, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 2, 2011 Interesting, Thanks Mark. I already use a Hadley Pro insert in a similar way. Regards. Billl

Mark Mark, Thanks for posting this. I have an A&A insert I use from one of their bags I'm not presently using. The new Think Tank Retrospective 5 is a great bag but I think padding was somewhat of an after thought. Lucky enough to have a Crumpler store here in town, so I might bring the aforementioned bag into the store and see how the S or M might fit.
menos I M6 Posted July 3, 2011 Share #4 Posted July 3, 2011 Mark, thanks for posting this. I have a Crumpler bag (Brazzillion Dollar Home), which I use for the more heavy, bulky DSLR stuff. These products are bombproof to my experience. I would buy this item unseen. I am not satisfied with the A&A insert's quality and will have a look at Crumpler for my bags. I'm curious... what about the retro 5 padding isn't working for you?
Guest WPalank Posted July 3, 2011 Share #6 Posted July 3, 2011 I'm curious... what about the retro 5 padding isn't working for you? It's very thin and not sized correctly. It's as if they had some leftover from a previous bag that was a bit larger. I'm referring to the dividers, maybe 2-3mms thick. However, I think they did a nice job on the bottom pad. The response that surprises me above is from the gentleman who feels that the A&A inserts are of inferior quality. I have never bought just the insert, instead removing them from a bag I wasn't using. Plush and thick, leica red, only they are a bit of a pain to find and order. Guest WPalank Posted July 3, 2011 Share #8 Posted July 3, 2011 Just a FYI. Went into the Crumpler Boutique here in San Francisco with my Retro 5 Bag to check out and fit the Haven. Unfortunately, they were sold out of all sizes. The young lady helping me said they have been a hot item and sell out almost immediately, estimating it has been a stocked item in the US for a bout the last month or so. She seemed very sharp (along with being gorgeous) and estimated the bag would take a M or L which was interesting as I feel the Retro 5 is pretty small. She took my number and said she will hold a M and L and give me a call when they come in. So if you have one in your hand and are on the fence you may want to grab it. thetoaster Posted July 4, 2011 Share #9 Posted July 4, 2011 I find myself intrigued by the "Dry Red No. 2". Anyone have that? Dry Red No 2 Tragically it's not listed on the Canadian site.
MarkP Posted July 4, 2011 Author Share #10 Posted July 4, 2011 I'm pleased this has been helpful. FYI, the M9 fits comfortably in the medium Haven with two lenses, it is a tight fit in the small. Mark
Guest WPalank Posted July 9, 2011 Share #11 Posted July 9, 2011 Just posted a review on my Blog. The Haven (M) fits perfectly in the Think Tank Retrospective 5 and I feel it gives a substantial amount of extra padding and better designed dividers to the overall system. Padding Inserts | A Leica and a Dab of DEET... Thanks again MarkP for getting this thread rolling and introducing me to a useful product I was unaware of. MarkP Posted July 9, 2011 Author Share #12 Posted July 9, 2011 You're welcome William. It seems perfect for so many of us who sometimes just want to use a standard backpack rather than a specialised camera bag. I have the orange but would have preferred the green:rolleyes: Seeing your review of the Retrospective bag, have you looked at the Crumpler 5 Million Dollar Home (excuse the crap rushed photo) but there are better ones on the Crumpler website: Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! It easily takes the camera in the middle face down and a lense on each side. But with a few spare inserts sent to me from Crumpler in Melbourne (gratis: I asked nicely and sent them a picture of the M9 with an old Noct f1.0 in the bag) you can see that I can get 2 lenses upright on the right side, and another (or whatever) under the flap in the centre. It has excellent storage for odds and ends. The bag is really quite small, compact and discrete. The 3 Million dollar Home is also great for the M9 with lens fitted and a second lens. Guest WPalank Posted July 11, 2011 Share #13 Posted July 11, 2011 Mark, I haven't looked at the 5 million dollar home. I just happened to have the R5 and felt the padding was insufficient or lacking.
