Paulus Posted July 1, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Today I got a Leica MP al la Carte. The thing is , it has 3 year Guaranty, but you can " prolong " it with a Guaranty card. ( The backside of the booklet ). You send it to the dealer . he puts his stamp on it, and sends it to the Leica Importer. I think it's strange that with a Leica M9 such things can be made digitally. Just fill in your special number on the Leica website and they'll have it registered. You also get a free prescription, not with a € 4415,- costing MP! . Does anyone have any idea why? Is it because an analog camera has to be registered in an analoge way?

Paulus Posted July 2, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted July 2, 2011 I didn't get a 3 year warranty with my MP. And I'm still waiting for my Passport. I mailed to the shopkeeper. He writes, that he has made a deal with Leica, that he never has to fill out forms or booklets , but that the guaranty just stands for 5 years. He has been always very trustworthy, so I believe him. I've never heard of this. Why would Leica extend a special 5 year warranty to one shop, when they are in the business selling extended warranties. Also the statement, "...never has to fill out forms or booklets" might indicate that he is not recording sales to Leica, but sitting on the records, so Leica thinks it is still unsold inventory. Then, if a problem comes up you send in the registration and a newly generated bill of sale. But of course that would be a most serious fraud so I'm sure that isn't what is happening... I don't think he works like that. Not this shop. He is selling way to much Leica to act in this way.And he's an official Leica Dealer. There are not so many dealers in Holland anymore. I know a shop in the Netherlands who was involved in a fraud years ago. They had a burglary but later in the year, they sold the stolen cameras themselves. The importer noticed it. This shop no longer is a dealer. Just sells second hand Leica cameras as " demo" with two years of guaranty.
Steve Ash Posted July 3, 2011 Share #7 Posted July 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think it is stated on the Leica website that they will provide you with a 5 year guarantee only in case you buy your camera via an official Leica dealer. Regards, Stephan

Regards, Stephan I got an e-mail from Leica Solms. If you register yourself by their website, they will give you the 5 year. So I did.
