ho_co Posted July 1, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Story (in German) at: boersen-zeitung.de and at Leica in Luxus-Vereinigung aufgenommen - Frankfurt - Bild.de. According to the above sources, Comité Colbert is a business federation of primarily French premium brands including Chanel, Dior, Lous Vuitton, Hermés etc. It has been open to membership by non-French European brands only since 2010. Both Mont Blanc and Leica are recently accepted German members, and two of the only four non-French businesses so far admitted. (The other two just accepted are the Hungarian porcelain manufacturer Herend and the Czech glassworks Moser.) Tradition and modern design, handmade quality and innovation in the premium market segment are hallmarks of the Comité Colbert member circle. Quite an honor, I'd say! Advertisement Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Hi ho_co, Take a look here Leica admitted to Comité Colbert. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted July 1, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2011 I'm sure the Leica management used some of fellow member Bollinger's produce on hearing the news.
SJP Posted July 1, 2011 Share #3 Posted July 1, 2011 If they are happy to join this crowd then I guess I am happy as well. Still I do not see the benifit as the other marques (for me) are mainly hype and no substance. Like Chanel that sells vodka with some rose petals etc. in it for 300x the normal price of industrial ethanol. Or was it 3000x more? I forget & don't have the inclination to find out. Leica for me does have a long tradition of excellence esp. in lens design & manufacture. It is not a hype, the price they ask is perfectly reasonable considering the time & effort (& small scale) involved. Substance, not hype. Still I will buy my wife some perfume & having a glass of Bollinger to celebrate is a good idea:D
jaapv Posted July 1, 2011 Share #4 Posted July 1, 2011 I agree it is a bit of a mixed crowd,Stephen, but brands like Moser, Bollinger, Lafite Rothschild, Montblanc etc are not fluff.

It all ended up in punch for shop parties, affectionaly named "shit or go blind".
Wolfgang Esslinger Posted July 3, 2011 Share #6 Posted July 3, 2011 Leica insist on being a "premium" but not a "luxurious" brand. When one looks at this mainly French group of brands I wonder what would count as a luxurious brand. Or is it only because nowadays people (and brands) don't like to be asociated with indulgence? But maybe I just have a wrong perspective: When the royal wedding took place some German media said that Kate Middleton was from a middle-class family. Up to then I never regarded millionaires to be middle-class but things seem to have changed.
epand56 Posted July 3, 2011 Share #7 Posted July 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mont Blanc are among the worst fountain pens I've ever used. And I have and have used many. They are of course a beauty, especially the fat Diplomat, but any sample I had of this firm had a huge problem in leaking ink. They costed me a couple jackets and some shirts. Leica is quite a better product IMO
