A. Cheng Posted July 1, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I ordered 4 pieces of leather for my Leica bodies in March 8 with cameraleather.com, which is almost four months now. Payment was immediately settled through PayPal. One month later, Morgan Sparks of the service emailed me for sending him reference pictures of the cameras. Since then, I wrote him at least a few emails just asking for updates of the order (not literally pushing delivery) but NONE reply. Certainly, the leathers have not arrived neither. It is rather frustrating. If he ever replies me a message that the order could only be delivered in 12 months' time, I would feel much better because at least there is a timeline I can anticipate. Is this normal with this company? Or even worse, should I regard my money has already been down the drain?

wattsy Posted July 1, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2011 Is this normal with this company? Having read this forum for many years I don't think your experience is unusual. Cameraleather has a very poor reputation for communication. So much so that I would personally think twice before buying anything from them. It seems like a lottery whether you get the ordered product quickly and efficiently or whether you have to wait months without any prospect of communication. I hope you get your covers soon. A. Cheng Posted July 1, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted July 1, 2011 Thanks, Ian. It looks like nothing can be done but wait (...sigh)
spydrxx Posted July 1, 2011 Share #4 Posted July 1, 2011 I know you are in HK, but I found using the good old telephone resolved my issue, Morgan was custom cutting a covering for me on a camera he had never worked with before, and it required a lot of measuring and remeasuring - he didn't want the covering to either stretch too much or be too short in certain areas, and he wanted me to know that I had to factor in the thickness of the covering in measuring it wrapping around a curved radius. In the end everything fit beautifully and was well worth the slight aggravation.

madNbad Posted July 26, 2011 Share #6 Posted July 26, 2011 It took about 3 months and several lost e-mails but my 111c covered in gary Griptac looks great. Since I was pleased with the service and have an idea of how long the wait is I will eventually send my M6 TTL for a new look. Welcome, dear visitor! Who supplied it (was it cameraleather) and do you know if it comes in black?? It came through on my screen as medium grey. Rgds., David
madNbad Posted July 26, 2011 Share #8 Posted July 26, 2011 It is gray and the same material is available in black. If you go to the website Cameraleather.com there are examples of the coverings he carries. As noted above it's not a fast process. You need to make contact first to arrange to ship your camera for recovering or you can order a kit to do it yourself. Here is what the 111c looked like before with cracked vulcanite. A. Cheng Posted July 26, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted July 26, 2011 My advice is, you can place order for the replacement leather as long as you do not mind waiting for a few months or even a year, but you don't want your camera absent from you for such a long period, right? DIY with their kit is very very easy in fact. My order is 4 months overdue. I have heard some people in my city have waited for 10 months but nothing arrives yet. Placing order with cameraleather.com is my worst online purchase experience so far. Very disappointing.

madNbad Posted July 27, 2011 Share #11 Posted July 27, 2011 This is madNbad's wife, here. We also had trouble with emails getting lost, for some reason. When I went to the original website, and emailed through that, I immediately got a reply. If you are not receiving replies to your emails, try that. iphoenix Posted July 27, 2011 Share #12 Posted July 27, 2011 Thank you to all for your most interesting responses. Just to play safe I think I'd better investigate other sources first. Does anyone know of any good Australian suppliers? David
doubice Posted July 27, 2011 Share #13 Posted July 27, 2011 I must say that my experience with Cameraleather was excellent - ordered twice and both time received the order in less than two weeks (ordered coverings for M7, M8, Contax 139 and a sheet of Vulcanite). The only other source for replacement camera coverings I know of is Aki Asahi in Japan. Dealt with him a few years ago - also avery pleasant experience. A. Cheng Posted July 27, 2011 Author Share #14 Posted July 27, 2011 I must admit cameraleather provides more choices than Aki-Asahi. They are both good, though.

doubice Posted July 27, 2011 Share #20 Posted July 27, 2011 Envy you. Was that quite sometime ago? I was told cameraleather used to deliver in reasonable time, back in mid 2010 or so. The first order was placed about 6 months ago, arrived in two weeks, the second order was placed a month ago and took three weeks. Shipping from the US East Coast (if I recall, Cameraleather is located in New Hampshire or Vermont), to Washington State on the West Coast; across the continent via First Class Mail. There was no communication from Malcolm from the time the order was placed, to the time it arrived - just a hand-written 'thanks for the order' on the invoice. My understanding from reading various posts on this forum is that, Malcolm cuts in batches so, if your particular camera body / covering type is sold out, you may have to wait until the next batch gets cut. His product is superb but, obviously he needs to get some help with replying to emails, queries etc. - read this from his website: Cameraleather Nikon SLR page Best, Jan
