X1 or Not

I have very recently sold my new Canon 7D, 24mmL and 50mm L - originally bought this to compliment M9. Travelled once with all of it and that did it, it had to go. Picked up my X1 Saturday just gone without so much as a test drive. Now have this with M9. Spent last couple of days getting acquainted with X1 and can say - this little camera is unbelievable. It just rocks! Can't wait to go travelling with this combination. Leica has never disappointed me and whilst my Canon gear was great - the weight/baggage/changing lenses etc just wore me down. Simple works best for me, less hassle - more fun just taking pics. :D

The X1 still provides the highest image quality available for a truly compact APS-C camera, so if that it your primary concern it is the right camera. The X100 and NX100 are not small enough to be called compact and the NEX has been a heart breaking disappointment due to the really awful lenses and clackity shutter.

I admit to being tempted now by the EP3..maybe combined with that new Leica 25mm F1.4....

Personally, I don't know if the X1 is your camera. From what you said about your 7D/lenses situation, the X1 might be even worse. At least with the 7D you had the OPTION to change lenses, and you were still complaining? Imagine if you cant? But that's not my problem and I don't think you asked about that in your OP, so I'll leave it at that.

In terms of printing... I don't print too often, but when I do get that picture I like I often make larger prints, and either hang them up/give to friends. For the most part I make prints that are 20x30 (occasionally stepping up to 24x36, but rarely larger than that). Oh yes, of course I'm talking about inches here, not centimeters.

When friends come over, they can't distinguish the difference between my film prints, M8 prints and my X1 prints. Then again my friends are not photographers. However, I can say with confidence that printing X1 images up to 24x36 is absolutely no problem. I don't see any noticeable pixelation at regular viewing distances. Close examination (with a magnifying glass) do reveal a bit of pixelation at 24x36 - which is why I usually only print to 20x30.

Hopefully that was helpful?
