hammam Posted February 7, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I recently bought a good 35 Summicron pre-asph, in pretty good shape, except for the aperture ring wich gets stiff towards the high numbers. I just realized that this particular lens has no serial number. I've looked everywhere. Nothing. Is there some secret place I should be looking for? Or is it possible that some Leica lenses didn't have serial numbers at all? This one is a "Leitz - Made in Canada". Thank you for your insight. Advertisement Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Hi hammam, Take a look here 35 Summicron S/N?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
TimF Posted February 7, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 7, 2007 Try the back of the aperture ring, ie, the bit that faces the camera when mounted. There's a picture of a 1980 35' cron in Lager II with the serial in that position.

There's a picture of a 1980 35' cron in Lager II with the serial in that position. I confirm, Hammam: besides Lager, I saw with my eyes a Summicron 35 of the 80's with the number such positioned: think is not frequent : for a collector, an interesting item; for the user...Cron 35 is always a Cron 35 ! (even if I prefer the original Chrome Wetzlar 8-element...)
hammam Posted February 8, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted February 8, 2007 Absolutely, guys, it's right there, albeit underneath the aperture ring, and not that easy to see when you don't know where to look. Thanks a lot.
