drdannn Posted June 21, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted June 21, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) It was shady after the rain, and newly formed ponds appeared under some trees. Ducks could only wade knee high. I needed some light to get the water to reflect so I used a Leica flash, m9, 90mm f4, low saturation, 160th sec, iso 80, +2 ev, flash. Post processing: crop only. Comments and criticism welcome.

drdannn Posted June 22, 2011 Author Share #8 Â Posted June 22, 2011 Same duck, different pose. This time I was standing farther back, I lowered the shutter speed to 1/45th and kicked up the flash one stop to make up for my distance away from the duck. Your second example of fill-in flash (the shining colours of the duck) even more clearly shows to ME that I (me) should start to consider using fill-in flash in such situations. Thanks for sharing. drdannn Posted June 23, 2011 Author Share #10 Â Posted June 23, 2011 Hello Dan,thanks again! Your second example of fill-in flash (the shining colours of the duck) even more clearly shows to ME that I (me) should start to consider using fill-in flash in such situations. Thanks for sharing. Telyt2003 Hello Telyt2003, I took a 5 week class from E.K. Waller , a professor of photography, who taught a private seminar thru Samy's Camera. One of her week long assignments was "fill in flash". Prior to this class I rarely ever used a flash. In fact I had to buy a Leica SF 24D flash for the m9. The class forced me to learn how to incorporate flash into a photograph without making it look like I used a flash; and you know, getting that washed out look that I always got when using flash. I took hundreds of photographs that week just practicing the teacher's instructions. I submitted 5 photographs for the assignment that week. The above two photos were of the ones' I submitted for critique. Below is another, however the assignment was to capture motion with flash so I shot some birds with wings flapping their way out of the water onto a river bank. Thanks for the kind words and for looking at my photos. Dan
