Vivitar flash on R8

I would strongly advise against this. The 283 is a high voltage unit, and I am fairly sure that the electronic issues I had with my R8 were caused by using this. I have also heard this elsewhere regarding R8 & R9 use and that unit.

My advice would be to look for a nice Metz unit with the correct adapter. The 283 is a great flash....but not for these cameras.

If you have a recent 283 (made in China) you should be OK. However, if you have a Japanese model, the trigger voltage is of the order of 250V which will fry you camera. I made a little adapter for the FZ30 which I use with my old 283 which cuts the trigger voltage to about 4V. I would upload the schematic but every time I try to upload a pic it logs me out.

P.S. Looks like you have to allow ActiveX otherwise it doesn't work.
