bscott Posted February 6, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 6, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Please let me know if a Vivitar 283 flash can be used on an R8 body without damage to the camera and electronics of the camera and flash?
Advertisement Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Hi bscott, Take a look here Vivitar flash on R8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ddp Posted February 6, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 6, 2007 I would strongly advise against this. The 283 is a high voltage unit, and I am fairly sure that the electronic issues I had with my R8 were caused by using this. I have also heard this elsewhere regarding R8 & R9 use and that unit. My advice would be to look for a nice Metz unit with the correct adapter. The 283 is a great flash....but not for these cameras.
bscott Posted February 6, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted February 6, 2007 Thanks for the information and I will certainly take your advice and use a flash for the R8.
pilot Posted February 6, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 6, 2007 If you have a recent 283 (made in China) you should be OK. However, if you have a Japanese model, the trigger voltage is of the order of 250V which will fry you camera. I made a little adapter for the FZ30 which I use with my old 283 which cuts the trigger voltage to about 4V. I would upload the schematic but every time I try to upload a pic it logs me out. Bryan P.S. Looks like you have to allow ActiveX otherwise it doesn't work. Welcome, dear visitor!
