stuny Posted June 20, 2011 Share #8 Posted June 20, 2011 K-H - Excellent set. From the title I expected it them to be in the Four Corners region.
k-hawinkler Posted June 20, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted June 20, 2011 Stuart, Thank you. No, I saw this bird right here on my morning walk. There are quite a few around locally. Some of them are roosting in Bandelier National Monument in high Ponderosa pines. I used to be able to see groups of them from my office window soaring high up on thermals. Just for the fun of it, it seemed. This particular bird flew relatively low overhead but with great speed on a very windy day. It came from the direction of Los Alamos / Jemez Mountains and was generally heading towards Bandelier. I was walking at the edge of town in White Rock next to the 43 square miles National Lab area. BTW, a few minutes later this turkey vulture was followed by another one. Same flight path. I have a similar set of photos of that vulture as well. Best, K-H. Oz_Hillbilly Posted June 21, 2011 Share #10 Posted June 21, 2011 K-H, A spectacular series. Each with great composition, moment, colors lighting and sharpness. This is a terrific job that couldn't have been done better with a DSLR.. Paul Certainly an achievement (and fun) to get a shot of this bird in flight with an M9 and 135mm lens but "spectacular series" and "couldn't get better with a DSLR" are just silly statements. Of course a DSLR with a big auto focus tele lens would be a better tool for the job. I don't see too many top bird photographers using an M9. The images would likely be sharper (not over sharpened post processing), higher resolution with more detail due to less cropping, better contrast etc Anyway - nice memories under the circumstances but I'm sure you weren't expecting to win any bird photography awards with this series. pico Posted June 21, 2011 Share #11 Posted June 21, 2011 I think you should submit the pictures to a stock agency - entitle them "Insurance Ad Art".
k-hawinkler Posted June 21, 2011 Author Share #12 Posted June 21, 2011 pico, Many thanks. Okay. Which agency do you have in mind? These images are heavily cropped. Best, K-H.
Oz_Hillbilly Posted June 22, 2011 Share #13 Posted June 22, 2011 I think you should submit the pictures to a stock agency - entitle them "Insurance Ad Art". Come on - let's not kid ourselves here. Do you think the images shot with an M9 and 135mm lens can compete with images like the one shown in this link? DSLR and super tele will always win in situations like this. NatureScapes.Net • View topic - Turkey Vulture I'm not saying K-H shouldn't be happy with getting the shot but please keep some perspective when it comes to gushing accolades or sending him off to a photo agency....
