I could get a Noctilux 50/0.95 today - don't know...

I have got a question to ask.

Given that the minimal focossing distance of the Summilux is 70 cm and that of the Noctilux is 100 cm, the depth of field is as follows:

Noctilux:

subject distance: 100 cm

selected f-stop: 1

Depth of field near limit: 98.9 cm

Depth of field far limit: 101.2 cm

Total: 2.28 cm

Summilux:

subject distance: 70 cm

selected f-stop: 1.4

Depth of field near limit: 69.2 cm

Depth of field far limit: 70.8 cm

Total: 1.54 cm

Doesn't that mean that the ability of the Summilux to render an unsharp bokeh at minimal focussing distance is almost as good as that of the Noctilux?

Yes, it doesn't.

Do not confuse depth-of-field with background blur. Also don't confuse background blur with bokeh.

yes, but you´ll get less surrounding (in a portrait for ex) in the frame which I think is the whole point with the noctilux.

For most of the years I was a photographer there was no such thing as ‘’bokeh’’ as the term

had not been invented yet. Now that it is, and it’s become fashionable to even judge

lenses on this alone, I just have to laugh…. ten-thousand bucks for ‘’brokeh’’ …..

dedicated followers of fashion. Yup.
