MiVr Posted June 11, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 11, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have just bought a quite beat up 35mm Summilux - focusing tab missing, loose aperture ring, a few deep scratches on the barrell - which nevertheless seemed to work well. Back at home, I discovered that when shaking the lens, something inside seems to be loose. Sounded like something big, I even thought it was a loose optical element. But when attached to the camera, the klicking sound was gone. Could the focusing mechanism be loose? If yes - can it be repaired? I just posted the same question in the German section, but wanted to see if any of you international forum members have experienced something similar. Advertisement Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Hi MiVr, Take a look here loose focus mechanism in Summilux?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted June 12, 2011 Share #2 Posted June 12, 2011 Please - not another clicking sound thread;) - that is normal. The aperture blades need to have some play to work properly. However - it should be a small sound. I would have Will van Manen give the lens a CLA.
MiVr Posted June 12, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted June 12, 2011 Sorry, I am new to this ... My Summicron and Elmarit don't click or rattle, and I don't think the Summilux has to have extra loose aperture blades ... And it sounds like something bigger inside was loose. But on the other hand, at f16 it's almost gone (a half click before f16 it's still rattling, though).
hoppyman Posted June 12, 2011 Share #4 Posted June 12, 2011 If your lens is 'beat up' it is likely to be a good idea to to have it serviced anyway and you can ask about any specific concerns then of course . If Leica Camera do the work, you can ask for an estimate first or set a limit to pre-approve work up to your chosen amount. If Solms service it it should be adjusted as new and you get 12 months warranty on the complete lens afterwards.
