Is there a way to fix the Leica 14473 filter holder E67 for WATE Tri-Elmar-M lens on a E39 or E46 lens? If so what kind of adapter do I need? -- This way I want to fix my 67mm pol-filter on a 35mm summicron. Does it work? Â Thank you in advance. Advertisement Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Hi swiss leica fan, Take a look here WATE Tri-Elmar Filter Holder on E39 or E46?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ho_co Posted June 11, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted June 11, 2011 The easiest way to put a 67mm filter on a smaller diameter lens is with a step-up ring. You'd want a 39mm > 67mm ring and a 46mm > 67mm ring. Â Since those are pretty long steps, you might not find a product to do it directly. You might have to get several rings to cover the distance. Â Of course, that wouldn't allow you to view through the adapter as you're used to doing with the 14473. Â The problem with the WATE filter adapter is that it has the special internal thread which is unique to that lens. Someone like John Milich could probably make an adapter for you, much nicer than the stepping rings, but also more expensive. Â You might find it more convenience to buy a smaller polarizer (say, 55mm) and a couple adapter rings, 39mm > 55mm and 46mm > 55mm. Â Let us know what you turn up! swiss leica fan Posted June 11, 2011 Author Share #3 Â Posted June 11, 2011 Thank you, Howard. Looks like this would be a complicating matter. I thought there may be a ready solution available. Rather than having a custom made adapter, I'd better get an extra Leica 13352 Pol-Filter. Has anybody experience with that one? I don't use them very often, so it is wasteful to buy one for each lens diameter. Of course you have to be careful to avoid inadvertent blocking with fingers, but it can be done with care. ho_co Posted June 12, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted June 12, 2011 I just noticed a possible compromise solution: Â Check out the 14286 Leica E49 to E67 Adapter for Standard Polarizer. Â You could use that adapter with the 67mm filter you've already got simply by purchasing a 39 > 49 step-up ring and a 46 > 49 step-up ring. Â That would be no more "fiddly" than the 13356 universal polarizer with its adapters.
graeme_clarke Posted June 13, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted June 13, 2011 An intriguing question! As the 67mm adapter for the WATE is female (it screws over the lens onto the external red threads) is there a step-up adapter available anywhere that has a male thread at each end? All the ones I've used or seen have been male - female. Graeme
swiss leica fan Posted June 13, 2011 Author Share #7 Â Posted June 13, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for all this helpful advice. Â Graeme: The male-female and male-male issue is the point. Also I do not know whether there is a male-male adaptor available to connect the WATE holder to the regular lenses. Â Howard: The E49-E67 adaptor seems suitable as one can also check the polarizing effect through the viewfinder which is important. I guess I try to get this thing plus a E39-E49 and an E46-E49 adaptor. Â Kind regards Andreas Swiss Leica Fan
