Robmoores1 Posted June 9, 2011 Share #1  Posted June 9, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Do we need another comparison between these two cameras? Probably not  This may be slightly different. Putting style, ergonomics aside I will be looking at the pure imaging capabilities of these two cameras.  Let's face it in a beauty parade and hands on the Fuji is hard to beat. But looks aren't everything......  Something to whet your appetite here.......  Leica X1 vs Fuji X100 – The Imaging Wars  Have a great day!  Rob

Solar B Posted June 9, 2011 Share #2  Posted June 9, 2011 Rob i think you have already decided on the X100 ... greater selection of features  no question ... but superior styling ... well not to my eyes and the X100 finish does look  a bit plasticky to me to ... i will have another look at the images but again its subjective , one  set appears brigher than the other , not sure about the subject matter but then what  makes a good subject matter...oh and in your third last line you,ve written "which is  the X100 and which is the X100"  Brian
Robmoores1 Posted June 9, 2011 Author Share #3 Â Posted June 9, 2011 Brian, Â Thanks for pointing out my typing error. It has been amended. Â I honestly haven't decided between the two. Yes I like the fact that the X100 is feature laden but also, as with the M9, love the simplicity of the X1. Â Have you seen an X100 in the flesh? It may look plasticky on photographs but looks so much better in the flesh. Â The subject matter was meant as something a it silly to take a picture of. Nothing too serious. Â Will post some more aesthetic and serious images in a couple of days with some more for some comparisons. Â Regards, Â Rob
Allnm Posted June 9, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted June 9, 2011 Well, I dont think we need a comparison on this forum, but, I was to choose which camera to buy at the moment it would certainly be the X1. As far as I can tell from reading reviews and users comments, the X100 is a great camera let down by poor menu's, software and firmware and a lens that cannot be fully utilised at f2. Â I'll stick with my X1 thankyou. Allan
Solar B Posted June 9, 2011 Share #5  Posted June 9, 2011 Ok Rob ... i believe you,ve not decided , and if im honest i have not seen  an X100 in the flesh ... i should be back at my dealer next week so will have a look ...  trouble is they are a Leica specialist ... so thats really bad news for my bank account  I will keep an eye on your link over the coming week to .  Brian

Ecaton Posted June 10, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted June 10, 2011 There is only one useful comparison of the two camera's and their IQ and it's on Sean Reid's webpage. Some other reports are entertaining, some annoying, some simply incompetent. Just my 2 cents. I have the X1 and the X100 but would not waste a second of my time doing a side by side IQ comparison. They are both "good enough" producing files wich tolerate a lot of abuse in PP. So no excuses for crappy pictures for owners of either the Leica or the Fuji anymore:p

The one conclusion that I've come to seeing shots from the X100 on the web is that one can do a lot better with RAW than with JPGs — but, wait, maybe one can't see that from small, compressed JPGs on the web...but, then, I've started shooting with an iPhone with the Hipstamatic software. —Mitch/Bangkok Snapshot Aesthetic? Allan  Well, you chose to believe what you read instead of experience...and that's fine. Sure, it has poor menus... but I set them up once and now only go in there to format my card. The X1 cannot be utilized at all at f/2. I use my camera at f/2 all of the time... even in macro. The X1 was good for its time and still is... but the X100 takes it a step further (if at the cost of some lost initial simplicity). Yes, I owned the X1. Yes, I owned the X1.  I'm afraid so, I cant afford to buy both to do my own tests so I rely on reviews and websites like dpreview to give me information that I can make informed choices from. Mind you, If I took what they said about the X1 as gospel, I would never have bought one! Buy, from what I have gleaned about the X100, it is still too far away from a complete camera for me to start thinking about getting one.  But, having said that, I saw one at Red Box Cameras this afternoon, and just by looks alone, my hand unconsciously starting fiddling with my wallet catch  When the firmware is released, I reckon one will be heading my way!  Allan
Solar B Posted June 17, 2011 Share #14  Posted June 17, 2011 I had a play with an X100 yesterday and was very impressed ... as a package all  in it,s way better than an X1 , build, EVF , lens-speed and value ... but optically it is  inferior and i believe the X1 will always deliver superior images with that glass in front  of its sensor ... however the X100 is definately not to be trifled with at any time.  Brian
Guest badbob Posted June 19, 2011 Share #15 Â Posted June 19, 2011 It doesn't matter if the X100 is as good as a Leica S2. It's too big. Period. And no matter how many calculations you do or excuses you make, the X1 is still the world's no. 1 camera of its size. Period. No amount of reviews is going to change that. If I wanted a camera the size of the X100 I would get a small OLY DSLR and skip all of that X100 nonsense.

Though some would not mind sacrificing portability for other functionality. I would opt for interchangeable lens for a camera that size. Bear in mind I use the X1 sans VF, grip, thumbs up, etc, etc. Â CJ
Solar B Posted June 19, 2011 Share #17  Posted June 19, 2011 Precisely ... when you add all the other goodies to the X1 as i have done its not so  compact any longer ... plus it becomes around twice the price of the X100  Brian
phancj Posted June 19, 2011 Share #18 Â Posted June 19, 2011 Exactly. IMO the two cameras are actually quite different and will appeal to different folks. Both are equally good in different ways. Â CJ

phancj Posted June 19, 2011 Share #20 Â Posted June 19, 2011 The lack of interchangeable lenses at that camera size may be more limiting to some....different strokes for different folks. Not to mention the excellent zuikos one can use.
