Hello,

I am considering getting one of these, I had a look at B&H and looks quiet nice, a bit smaller than what I expected - the hadley pro is too large.

What are your thoughts on that bag ?

- Do you think it looks too obvious like a cam bag (black), do you feel it;'s too smal and be like a purse ?

- looks like it can hold an M w/lens + 2 extra lens. ?

-Any issue with the quick release mode ?

- Any annoyance by the fact there is no zipper ?

Thanks a lot

I have and use one (black) for my M9 gear, and it´s almost perfect. With an extra divider, it holds the M9 with either the Summicron 75 or the old Rigid Summicron 50 with shade mounted, and that leaves 2 compartments that can each swallow anything up to a Tele Elmar 4/135 with mounted shade. Below the M9, there´s a small horizontal divider (comes with the bag), and below that a lens cleaning cloth, extra batteries and cards. Two front pockets for things like a Moleskine or an iPhone, plus room behind the insert for maps or thin books (possibly even an iPad; don´t own one...).

Very easy to get things in or out in a hurry; the quick release works like a charm, and when closed, it´s completely rainproof, with the lid covering the top all the way. So, no need for a zipper. And.... ABSOLUTELY NO conf-d-d Velcro to make unwanted noise!

If it ever wears out, I´d get another one right away. I do own an Original Hadley, too, but it´s too big for my present outfit (it even swallowed my Hasselblad gear long ago..).

The small Hadley is my fourth Billingham bag. Mine is khaki and tan. It holds as much photo gear as I ever want to carry, viz. I M9 with lens, and two extra lenses up to and including my Apo-Telyt. It is weatherproof (important where live). It is of a quality commensurate with the contents it holds. Case closed.

If I would ever carry my M equipment on unsafe locations, which I doubt, I would prefer an earlier Billingham with zippers. But I would really choose to use a simpler though good camera, such as my X100. I note with interest that Sean Reid, when he was working some seedy neighbourhoods years ago, also did not carry his Leicas, but the small (but delightful) Canonet QL rangefinder cameras.

The khaki Billinghams do signal 'quality' all right, but they don't scream 'camera! Snatch me!'

Dear Vadim,

You might also want to consider the Handley Digital, which can easily hold one body w/ lens plus about two additional lenses (as long as all those lenses are not a .95 Noctilux, Summilux 21 and Elmarit 135 )...

I do own one and am most happy with it (beside the Hadley Pro for the larger set)!

Best regards,

Michael

Thanks Everyone for your responses. I will follow your recommendations and get one. It looks pretty nice ! Thanks Micheal for suggesting the hadley digital but i found it too small for my needs and it's expensive compared to the hadley small (198 instead of $199)

Thanks all :)

I am also very happy with my Headley Small. It fits a M9 with 3 lenses and a lot of accessories easily. But the biggest pro for me was that an iPad exactly fits too :).

I have three of the Billingham bags. The Hadley digital is more useful for an M9 and two spare lenses than a person might think. I also have the L-2, which used to be called the Alice and is built for the rangefinders. It's also a great bag and I've traveled through China with one. Great if you have two bodes and a couple lenses, plus the front holds film.

The Hadley Small has become my favorite though. It holds one camera with a lens and four other lenses down the side. I throw a viewfinder and spare batteries in the front pockets. Overall I like this setup the best although it gets heavy and sometimes I don't need to take all the lenses.... in which case I grab the digital version.

All of mine are black but the sand color is nice as well.
