I have been reading the X1 forum every day, and I was so impressed with so many owners' delight in having the camera, that I went out today and bought a black X1 for myself. Using it this afternoon reminds me of my M days. And what a pretty thing to hold and look at. Wish me luck.

Thanks for the good wishes. I'm using an old 28mm Leitz viewfinder and it's pretty close. But I'm surprised to say that so far, I haven't minded using the screen at all. Steadying the camera by pulling the neck strap taught against out-stretched hands works well.

Enjoy your new camera. I keep on repeating myself but the thumbsup will change the way you use the x1

I've read that quite a few times on this forum, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone articulate why that is so. For an X1 newbie like me, could you please explain what difference a thumbs up would make? (I don't have any problem holding the camera "naked" - I mean the camera, not me! - don't have issues knocking the MF wheel, etc...)

Many do indeed swear by their Thumbs-up device , my preference is toward a good haf-leather case .. as i believe they offer the best combination of grip and protection for any camera .. trouble is that there are so many to choose from .. i have two for my X1 and am about to try another

It allows you to grip the camera using the base of your thumb (which then allows the remaining fingers to maintain a solid grip on the camera). I can then naturally hold the camera close to my face and it gives me more control.
