steinzeug Posted June 3, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, does anyone know if/how one can trace the repair history of a Leica M8 using the serial number. This would be great when buying second hand to know whats been done.
Advertisement Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Hi steinzeug, Take a look here Tracing the repair history of a M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
steinzeug Posted June 6, 2011 Author Share #2 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted the serial number to Leica support in Solms, who sent a polite reply, i.e its not been there = good news or bad?
UliWer Posted June 6, 2011 Share #3 Posted June 6, 2011 There is a "Repair tracking" on the Leica website: Leica Camera AG - Service - repair tracking Doesn't this work anymore. When I had my M8 serviced last winter I could follow the progress. steinzeug Posted June 6, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted June 6, 2011 thanks, but my intention was to see if there is a way to check what repair history a used camera has had before buying.

You still can for your repair. However, I don't think the OP's intent is covered by the "Conditions of use". K-H.
LeicaMSeattle Posted June 6, 2011 Share #6 Posted June 6, 2011 I think what "Steinzeug" is looking for is a published record like a CarFax for cars that lists the history of a car at specific mileage milestones with reports of any serious accidents etc. Sorry, but these are just cameras, tools used to capture images. It's pretty much up to the seller for an honest full disclosure at the time of the sale.
steinzeug Posted June 6, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted June 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks. Seeing as most repairs are done in Solms and that records are kept, it doesn´t seem too far out to set up a database over repairs. In fact it would be really great for us users to know what has been done, upgraded, exchanged and would go some way in putting back the trust in the M8.
