£1300 = $2100 so $2000-$2200 is about right.

Yes put a lens on and shoot a few films, Pro slide film is best, Fuji or Kodak.

Lincoln

Agreed, maybe slightly more if it's a 0.58 or 0.85 (say $2400).

Firstly welcome to the Forum, you'll find this to be an excellent resource for all things Leica.

And secondly, I think 01af's answer is the best yet. You've bought the M7 already and paid whatever you paid for it. One of three scenarios will be true:

1) you paid too much, way too much. and the replies to this thread confirms it.

2) you paid about the right amount ($2000 - $2500 in the US depending on condition)

3) you actually paid a little less than you should have

Either way, you now have an M7. Which is an amazing tool of photography. There's probably no way you'll be getting your money back anyways (since you bought it from an individual), so just go out and shoot :)

FWIW - I live in NYC and bought an M7 "Mint" in box and everything for $2650 a while ago and ended up selling it for no loss.

thanks for the reply - the thing is, i *can* get the money back if i wanted to (it's the friend of a friend of a friend)... hence the question. but it looks like, from the replies, i did pretty well.

thanks again.

Fair enough, it was wrong of me to assume you couldn't get your money back (it's just that more often than not, that's the case)

Either way, glad to hear you got it at a reasonably fair price. Now let's see some photos? :)

Go out and take some pictures.

This will make you happier, but dont use slide film, mono or C41, get it a new battery as well.

Read the instruction manual, first.

Be happier

Not to worry you, but there were later revisions to the M7 - the film speed detector and the viewfinder. If you have an earlier model, then you might look forward to having it upgraded. Or not. I did not.

jesus, I'm plenty happy... I just wanted to know if I should return a camera to save a few hundred bucks and pick up a different one. Is this what this board consists of - people pontificating and drawing incorrect conclusions? If so, I'll pass.

Thanks - presumably there's a serial number range somewhere that lists the affected models?

It's pretty simple to do a little research, look at dealers s/h stock and prices, look at completed ebay auctions. Leica prices can vary by a huge margin, depending on model specifics and condition.

Usually best to do the research before parting with your money, unless it was an impulse buy.

You'll find this forum very helpful if you stick around, but it's the internet and you shouldn't be too sensitive to some of the more blunt responses.

Somewhere in the region of $2000-2200 I think is reasonable for a standard magnification M7. If you got one for cheaper, you probably got a decent price. I've seen them as low as $1700-1800. Just so you know, I think the optical DX reader can be installed by Leica at no charge still. Might be worth contacting them about it if you want it.

thanks for the incredibly unhelpful answer. if i had your money, i guess i wouldn't need to concern myself with such matters. but, alas, i live in a world where a significant expense is just that... significant.

You bought it to flip it or to use it?

Looks like you don't know what and why you bought it, especially when you've got it from a friend (or friend's friend ...) If you bought it to make photos, than as previously suggested go out and shoot some pictures.

To stay on topic - YES, you've payed for it too much...

Regards,

b.
