Grey Band?

By "there was no DNG file," do you mean that the camera was supposed to write one but didn't, or that the camera was set for JPG only?

We've seen several of this kind of thing, where part of the image is duplicated in the file or where part of one frame seems to be duplicated in another.

I've forgotten how they were described--"strange artifact" or "horizontal stripe" or I don't know what.

I think the upshot in all cases was a problem with the camera.

Recommendation would be to contact Leica with a copy of the image and ask their opinion.

I'm surprised you're not getting more response here, MO. There have been at least two similar threads in the past, and both got a lot of interest.

If it didn't record the DNG when it was supposed to, I think something is wrong with the camera.

Were you near the end of the battery when it happened? That's the only excuse I can think of that might marginalize the problem.

I think sending a copy of the JPG to Leica and asking them about it would be your best solution; I'm afraid they'll ask to see the camera to replace the main board.

I know Howard, I find the forum disappointing sometimes to be honest.

Good news is that it has not happened since.. I think the battery was on two thirds but close to one as it had been in the camera for over a week and not had much use.

I will be keeping an eye on it.. the file when viewed in the camera was grey but then white when viewed on my laptop...
