Thanks to everyone who's voted so far. Only a few days to go and I'll be firing up Excel to work out the winner.

I won't be voting by the way, I know who submitted what, and questions of my impartiality have be raised in the past, so I've decided not to participate.

Steve, I respect your decision, but, just for the record, I'd like to be the first one to say that it would never even occur to me to question your impartiality.

The integrity of several Forum Members was openly, unfairly and unjustifiably questioned recently, hence Steve's reticence in voting.

Given that there is no prize fund or other reward, I think that there is little point in Steve not expressing a preference this time round. Or indeed, ever.

Hear, hear!

The small numbers of participants in these forum contests does make them easy to manipulate by anyone determined to do so. An entrant who has an image in with a chance of the top place might be tempted not vote for a rival. More seriously, new accounts could be created solely for the purpose of boosting a particular image in the rankings. Admittedly such behaviour would be obvious and a resulting win tainted, but it would be difficult to prove that anything untoward had taken place.

In these circumstances, bias on the part of the organiser would be the least of anyone’s problems, quite apart from being unlikely to occur. Human nature being what it is, people can sometimes fail to maintain a balanced view, as Andy has described. Personally, I would be delighted to know Steve’s views and hope that he feels that he can share them with us. If not now, at least after the contest.

Note that I am not saying that any of the things that I have described have occurred in either this or any other poll held on the forum. From what I have seen, these contests are consistently conducted in a fair and open manner, and are a credit to all concerned.

Regards

Mike

A parallel my be drawn from golf. Players are trusted on their honour to keep their own score. If they cheat, there is only one person who loses, by attempting to win. The dishonest one!

I am confident that a similar honour system successfully applies to the scoring system on this forum. After all, the result is recorded in the images and each photographer can see the truth for him or herself.
