Penzes Posted May 19, 2011 Share #23 Posted May 19, 2011 @ plasticman, let me put that way, the threads are not 100% satisfying. Some of the people out there having crashes. The official Nikon policy is: we are not upgrading, so it won't work. But everyone is free to upgrade and try. I tried on a new intel based powerbook, with a clean install and I had problems. With 10.5.8 I have no issues. I would say, just read the threads and make up your mind.

I'm simply tired of the mass of misinformation that's accumulating on this forum. Your previous post was a flat and very categorical "Nope!" to a question which in fact has no definite answer - some people have found the software works on 10.6 without problems, while others have had less fortune. As far as I'm concerned, the helpful answer is therefore that in your particular experience, you've found NikonScan problematic on 10.6, but others have had greater success. ---- As far as Vuescan is concerned - I've found that after a learning curve, the results are truly excellent, and in my experience, they generally surpass the quality I was getting from NikonScan. Paradoxically, the greatest problem I've had with Vuescan is that Ed Hamrick upgrades the software far too frequently, and I've found that some of the upgrades have introduced new small bugs, that then require yet another upgrade to fix. Nowadays I tend to keep an eye on the upgrade list and only make a change when I judge the 'improvements' will definitely help my workflow. ---- As a response to Ronald - on my hard-drive I have images from the M8, M9 and also 4000dpi scans of 6x6 negatives (using the LS-9000ED). The latter are approximately 78 million non-Bayer-interpolated pixels. These images are amazing in quality (sadly not matched by my photographic inspiration), but if they do not easily surpass what you're able to get from your M9 files, then maybe something is wrong with the scanning process? Tor1Amos Posted May 19, 2011 Author Share #25 Posted May 19, 2011 Ed was right. It was the "Fine mode" option. When I turned this option of, the pixel problem disapered. The fine mode isnt so fine after all...
