Pecole Posted May 12, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 12, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) There is no more discussion about the serial numbers with asterisk : they denote a duplicate, OR (this fact was checked at Wetzlar) a camera taken in part exchange for a new one - like it has been common in the early after-war years - and reconditioned or upgraded before being resold. Now, we also have encountered several serial numbers with a letter "D" added; would it simply mean "Duplicate" ? We illustrate two examples in our Fontenelle Collection : a Leica MD-2 numbered 1502661 D and a Leica M4-P nº *1552611 with the asterisk before the number. Any comment ?
