Advertisement Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Hi ddh, Take a look here Let's go that way, no, this way.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jmr Posted July 14, 2006 Share #2 Posted July 14, 2006 Daniel, you've got a good subject here, but there's not enough separation - either in tone or texture - of the subject from the background. This means that, to my eye at least, the whole thing meshes together and loses meaning. Classically you can get separation using selective focus - difficult because of your distance from the subject and their proximity to the background. Or you could go for a darker background - tricky if the background just doesn't happen to be dark! No great insight from me here, but I hope you find it useful. ddh Posted July 14, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted July 14, 2006 Good insight nonetheless, thank you. I somewhat expected this picture to generate such a feeling. But the fact is these ducklings are hiding from me. (I'm in my kayak trying to get near) and the mother quack was trying her best to get me to go away (broken wing act...). I liked the way they somewhat blend in to the rocky shoreline and wanted to show this. This is why i made no effort in Photoshop to detach them from the background. This explains why but does not make it a better picture ;-) Thanks again.
