Iron Flatline Posted February 3, 2007 Share #41 Â Posted February 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) 1. It's one of the defective cameras, so I guess it has to go back. Yeah, it's been physically updated, and the firmware is 1.09, but there's a spelling error on one of the menus. It should be "Lens dependent" for Auto Slow Sync, not "Lens dependant." Maybe the camera still functions OK--only further tests will tell. Does the spelling error mean it is a defective one? I have that spelling error. Or is the spelling error just a general observation that you made?
neila Posted February 3, 2007 Share #42  Posted February 3, 2007 What might those secrets be? How about sharing them? John  John, the secrets are probably widely known - but they weren't to me! Here's the thread. They're not mine to share really as it was Jamie who revealed them....  Neil   http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/14849-first-few-shots-m8.html

Iron Flatline Posted February 3, 2007 Share #44 Â Posted February 3, 2007 What? I'm sorry, I don't understand your answer. Â Does the spelling mistake mean I have an older Leica, and does that mean I have to send it in for some kind of service? Â When I got it, it had firmware version 1.09, as well as the brochure for IR filters.
chrism Posted February 3, 2007 Share #45 Â Posted February 3, 2007 Don't worry Blasko, I'm finding your anti-M8 posts quite endearing now I've got used to them. I'll raise a glass of Bull's Blood in your direction. Â Chris
woodyspedden Posted February 4, 2007 Share #46 Â Posted February 4, 2007 I actually like the plate too--it's strong and SD cards, well, they look more fragile than CF cards, though I guess they have no pins to bend As Marc said, once 4GB SD cards are in there I won't worry that much (not that I do now). Â I'm also glad the camera doesn't mount as a disc, especially on Win XP where delayed write failures are the norm for peripherals like this. I'd only ever use a dedicated card reader (or two) to get stuff off the cards. Â Issues? Yeah--Bill is completely right about formatting multiple cards. That *is* a major pain with the base plate. The camera not working with it off is just error prone too--it's something to go wrong that shouldn't. So I'd love to see them turn that feature OFF in the future. Â Hey Jamie and Mark I am really confused by your comments about a 4 gigabyte card. I use the Transcend 150x cards and have since I first got my M8 on November 8th. Never have had a card issue and it is wonderful to have so much capacity. If you really want to use 4Gb cards try one of these. You'll love it because Transcend cards are not only good, they are cheap. Â Woody
MarcRochkind Posted February 4, 2007 Author Share #47 Â Posted February 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Iron (and everyone else): Â My comment about sending the camera back because of the spelling error was a JOKE! I'm sure firmware 1.09 means it is new production. Â --Marc
Iron Flatline Posted February 4, 2007 Share #48 Â Posted February 4, 2007 Phew. I'm hearing so many odd horror stories that I've become afraid to touch the darn thing. I'm just waiting for it to somehow turn into a glorified digital Lomo in my hands.
