Hello:

I'm anticipating my M8 delivery tomorrow and ordered a few 1gb cards to work with initially. Which cards are performing well out there? Also, I wonder at which point the speed of the card no longer matters due to the ability of the camera to write to it. Are the fastest cards worth it?

Thanks!

I have an Extreme III 2GB card, and although it seems to work fine with the M8, there are some problems reading it subsequently in my reader. I have switched to an Ultra II, and since then have had no trouble. I would stick to Ultra II until the Extreme III cards work more reliably all the way through the pipeline, including the readers.

Some people are having good results with the Ridata 4GB 150X cards. I had one but returned it unopened because it wasn't on the list from Leica. I later found out it was one of the only 4GB cards that worked in the M8. It is also quite inexpensive, selling from USD $45 to $70.

Transcend 150x cards are working for me very well. I have 4 of the 2GB cards.

I also have a Sandisc Ultra II which also works well, but is not as fast as the Transcend cards.

Me too!

These relatively cheap Transcend cards work really well with the M8. I am using their 4GB versions and have had no problems whatsoever. Your mileage may vary.

Ridata.

I use the Ridata x150 4GB. It works on my M8. Mind you, however, not all SD device recogonise this card. For example, the EPSON P-5000 media player does not recognise it. This make me wonder will Transcend be a better choice (more stable and widely compatible) if we are looking for a 4GB card.

Cheers

  • 2 weeks later...

I just got 2 4GB Ridata cards and the first one I opened will not format. The red light just blinks on and on until I take the battery out. Someone mentioned formatting on the computer, mac in my case. How is this done? Some other cards work, some don't. New Kingston does the same thing. Older Lexar Platinums work, but are only 1GB. I was hoping for the 4GB cards since I just got a Luigi case and it takes a bit of effort to get to the card slot. Great case tough!!
