k-hawinkler Posted April 30, 2011 Share #9 Posted April 30, 2011 Superb! However, I feel it to be slightly over sharp? Gorgeous photo all the same. John Hi John, I am still learning how to sharpen correctly. Could you please describe what indicates over-sharpening to you in the image above. I would greatly appreciate that. Of course, with my question I don't want to offend Ece in the least! If I do, sorry. Best, K-H.
pauledell Posted April 30, 2011 Share #10 Posted April 30, 2011 Ece, Gorgeous. A fine shot with the framing, colors and sharpness. I wouldn't change a thing with this shot. Paul
allamande Posted April 30, 2011 Author Share #11 Posted April 30, 2011 Tri, Mehmet, Enrico, Stuart, John, Al, K-H., and Paul, Thank you for your time to look and for your thoughts and comments. I appreciate the input and your encouragement very much. K.H. I do welcome your question as we can all learn something from the outcome. I appreciate the fact that you raised it. I know there are many variables that go into each of us viewing an image (monitors, calibration, etc.). I didn't do any sharpening to this image, but maybe my "export" function out of LR is misbehaving. Ece
k-hawinkler Posted April 30, 2011 Share #12 Posted April 30, 2011 Tri, Mehmet, Enrico, Stuart, John, Al, K-H., and Paul, Thank you for your time to look and for your thoughts and comments. Ece Hi Ece, Thanks for your reply. I noticed in my own images - when I over-sharpen at full resolution and then scale down - there seems to be added to the image a texture of extremely fine black and/or white detail. When I look at the big boulder and its texture or the fine light branches in front of the upper left corner of the big boulder I can see something faintly similar to my own experiences. If there is over-sharpening in your image, to me it appears to be borderline. That's why I asked my question to John and I would appreciate his reply. As I said, I am pretty new to photography as a serious hobby and to Leica gear in particular. The technical discussions in this forum have been most educational and enjoyable for me. Thanks again. Best, K-H.
allamande Posted April 30, 2011 Author Share #13 Posted April 30, 2011 Hi K.-H., I am with you. I am trying to learn the mysteries of PP What I've noticed is that sometimes, exporting from LR for posting (which is also reducing the image) changes the "look" of an image ever so slightly though I can't exactly put my finger on it as to why or how? Either the color contrast or sharpness or a combination of the two seem to change just a tiny little bit. When I processed this image, I did not do any sharpening because it already looked sharp enough to me, especially with the light/shadow contrasts all over the frame. But I do see what you are describing and it looks a tad bit different here on the forum page (the reduced frame) than what I see within LR, viewed at full frame, though to my eyes the difference doesn't appear to be in the sharpness but in tonal contrast. And, it is so slight that I don't mind it, but it would be good to know what's going on. Like I said, the mysteries of PP...At least for me, they don't reveal themselves too easily, so I can use all the help I can get. Ece
