BonneyD Posted April 27, 2011 Share #1 Posted April 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Finally, after much procrastination and advice from people here on forum (thank you) my M8 with 50mm 2.5 summarit lens is coming. I've gone from d-lux 4 to x1 not to M8, I still have them all can't seem to part with them. I'm hoping the x1 will compliment the longer focal length of the 50mm for my street photography. Maybe one day I'll get the M9, but right one I couldn't be happier:D

Realist_classic Posted April 27, 2011 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2011 Congrats on getting the M8! It has certainly given me some great pictures and enjoyment. Maybe one day I'll get the M9, but right one I couldn't be happier:D The 35mm equivalent and close to 70mm equivalent works very well for me. I use the 24mm Elmarit (same lens on the X1) and the 50 Summicron on the M8.
StephenPatterson Posted April 28, 2011 Share #3 Posted April 28, 2011 You will love it. Last November I walked into a Leica store in Singapore and bought a D-Lux 5. Two months later picked up an X1. Two months after that got the M8.2. Leica cameras are addictive.
Archiver Posted April 28, 2011 Share #4 Posted April 28, 2011 Congratulations, Bonney. The M8 with 50mm lens will be great for you. You'll be able to do a lot of longer shooting and portraits that the X1 can't, and I think you'll be really impressed with the image quality. It is qualitatively different from the X1, much sharper at the pixel level. As you will read elsewhere, it is probably best up to ISO 640, particularly in colour. Shoot DNG and process in Lightroom for best results, etc etc. An IR-cut filter will be necessary to avoid the magenta-coloured blacks issue. You're going to have a lot of fun! Yeah, If you haven't done so already.. I would order your UV/IR cut filter now so you'll have it ready when the cameras comes. (unless it comes with it.) BonneyD Posted April 30, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted April 30, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks everyone. I'm not sure if it comes with filter or not, so I'll just have to wait and see. I've read somewhere that using the M8 without the filter produces great b&w shots, which I would mainly be doing. Is this true?

BonneyD Posted May 2, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted May 2, 2011 I have received camera and I am in love! I am short sighted, but am able to focus easily, could never do that with dslr. I have worked out the shutter actuations is at 2912 (unique ID is b62), if this is right I am even more pleased. It is in mint condition:) Firmware is at 2.004, I believe it is up to 2.005? Thanks everyone for advising to get this camera.
Bert N Posted May 2, 2011 Share #10 Posted May 2, 2011 Not that it makes any difference, but B62 is 2914. You should definitely update to the latest firmware, v 2.005. Enjoy your new camera!
ezc203 Posted May 2, 2011 Share #11 Posted May 2, 2011 Congrats, this is exactly the combination I started on. Hope to see lots of photos from you soon!

You can download the latest version of firmware (2.005) from here. Make sure to leave 5 seconds between when your M8 asks you "Do you want to update the software?" and pressing okay. The instructions advise doing this and there have been reports from people who haven't left 5 seconds needing to send their cameras back to Solms to have them woken up. Pete.
