Lucklik Posted April 28, 2011 Share #21 Posted April 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Only partially tongue-in-cheek: If having a lens with a 31 mm FL is that important to you, buy a Pentax K-5 (or a Sony Nex-5 w/K mount adapter) and use the Pentax SMC FA*31mm Limited lens - IMO it's as good as Leica glass. Of course, you'll need to adapt to a different camera... Regards, Jim Pentax has a Limited 21mm which gives you 31.5mm on the K5 I have also the 31mm limited which I use on the LX On my M6 & 7 I hardly use 28 and 21mm but do use a lot of 24 & 35 mm. Advertisement Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Hi Lucklik, Take a look here 31-32 mm wide angle lens?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tgm Posted April 28, 2011 Author Share #22 Posted April 28, 2011 That's why this thread is somewhat silly, IMO. Regards, Jim I final word from my side. Actually, I regret having asked such simple question if there is a medium wide angle lens with 31-32 mm available for Leica M cameras. After spending some time with Google: 24 mm - 25mm lenses fill the gap between 21 and 28 which is only 6 % larger the the gap between 28 and 35 mm. Zeiss offers 25 an 28 mm lenses, Bessa offers 35 and 40 mm lenses..... But it was also some fun reading the well intentioned comments. Thomas
luigi bertolotti Posted April 28, 2011 Share #23 Posted April 28, 2011 Well, to be clear, my opinion is that is at all possible that one could discover, having one, that a 31 or 32 mm lens is his "ideal focal"... but I think also that, for "historical" and maybe "irrational" reasons, lens designers (and/or marketers) tend to avoid "strange" focals... ... 24 28 are "fashionable", 25 "has a tradition of its own", 20 is "round", but 21 too "has a history behind...", 35 is "a big classic" and even 45 "had its moment", someone (Pentax, I seem) "tried 43 but didn't set a trend"... . None, afaik, tried 31 or 32... maybe one day Cosina Voigtlander, which sometimes has smart ideas, could fill the gap with a smart item... personally, being a lover of prime numbers, I'd like the idea of a 31 . jamesk8752 Posted April 29, 2011 Share #24 Posted April 29, 2011 (snip)None, afaik, tried 31 or 32... maybe one day Cosina Voigtlander, which sometimes has smart ideas, could fill the gap with a smart item... personally, being a lover of prime numbers, I'd like the idea of a 31 . As I stated above Pentax does in fact offer a premium lens with a focal length of 31mm exactly - the FA* 31mm f1.8 Limited. Unfortunately it is only available in the Pentax K mount. Curiously, Pentax briefly offered another Limited lens, the FA* 43/1.9, in Leica M mount about ten years ago. I have a copy. While it's a very good lens and has its own special rendering, it is not as sharp as my Summicron 50/2 type 4. At the time, hopes were expressed that Pentax might introduce M mount versions of the FA* 31/1.8 and FA*77/1.8 Limited lenses but alas, it never happened. Under Hoya management it never will...
