How is the viewfinder blockage with the 12404 hood compared to the 12526 rectangular one? I also have the IROOA which blocks more so I am contemplating drilling out a section of my rectangular hood to make it like that of the 28mm summicron 12451 hood.

Congratulations on your new MP.

Nick

I modified the standard rectangular one myself, see :-

Andy,

My advice is to drop the "Lederhosen" and go naked ! Although tough protection they can cause chafing by the stitched seams rubbing against the body's skin. You have spent a fortune to get the MP you might as well grip the naked body and enjoy the feeling instead of feeling it through those posh leather trousers. This happened to me but then I did take the MP out of the ERC whenever I went out, but used the ERC for protection while travelling, so many times rubbing the skin. Now I use an OP TECH Neoprene RangeFinder RF1 case.

You can see the chafing between the frame selector lever and the strap on my MP. The MP grip is super grippy but easily worn, like sports tyres.

That is the alteration I'm thinking of doing to the rectangular hood. I am surprised that no camera technician appears to offer this modification service which should be very neat with the right machining tools. As for Leica, how much could it possibly add to the cost of the lens to vent that corner of the hood...

It seems so obvious, especially as the hood for the 21 Elmarit asph. has just such a cutout for nor reason I can think of.

It took me about 20 mins. with a small modellers drill and small files, quite easy!

Congrats Andy! :) I eventually swapped out my two M7s for two MPs as I found I overused the AE on the M7s to the detriment of my exposures. Unfortunately I also contracted an addiction for black paint lenses and use a BP 35/2 ASPH and both a BP 50/1.4 ASPH and pre-ASPH. A bit expensive but awfully nice to use...

I had intended to sell the M7, but circumstances may allow me to keep it.

I do think the MP will be a contemplative camera, while the M7 with the winder will be for more fast moving subjects. Who knows? It's all part of the learning experience. And part of the fun.

For me, fun is what it's all about, and if I have found the part of my life where I can afford to run an M7 and an MP together, I will run with it for a while. I might die tomorrow.

Life is too short.

Same reason why I bought the MP this week! next to my M9:) I stupidly traded the old MP against the M9. Never do that!

You can also use the " lederhosen" at minus 20 degrees celsius. Stops your nose from freezing to the camera! Nice when you walk over frozen " Ostsee " sea!

I think the original Leica leather M6 -2002 -case ist the best for this work.
