menos I M6 Posted April 22, 2011 Share #21 Posted April 22, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ha, I'm up, but not about yet. Shutter dial should be firm, but not too heavy. Probably loosen up quickly; pair of pliers will help. With your MP and M7, learn to always push the shutter speed dial in the direction of the viewfinder arrows. One is from the front of the wheel, the other is the back. Simple and stops the nonsense about wrong direction of rotation - just front or back. I used to do this in the beginning, when I added an M7 to the M6. At some point though, I found it quicker, to adjust shutter speed also on the M6 with the index finger tip. My rule is this: M7: adjust shutter speed in the direction, the arrows are pointing M6, MP: adjust shutter speed towards the arrows, that indicate over or under exposure I don't get mind hick ups on this anymore. Andy, now what you really want, is to add a black paint Leicavit MP to that new beauty. I always found these devices funny looking and couldn't imagine, how fantastic they are, until I picked one up myself and paired it with the MP. I even thought about getting a second one for the M6, but will look out for a chrome model. Hint, hint: there is a nice black paint one up for sale on LUF (not connected with the seller). You have to try one with your MP - you will never take it off again, promise!

Nick_S Posted April 23, 2011 Share #24 Posted April 23, 2011 It's a 12504 hood - the one that separates to allow the use of Series 7 filters. I use it all the time on the 35 ASPH. It works perfectly, doesn't fall off, and hasn't got the world's most expensive square inch of rubberised plastic as a cover... Andy How is the viewfinder blockage with the 12404 hood compared to the 12526 rectangular one? I also have the IROOA which blocks more so I am contemplating drilling out a section of my rectangular hood to make it like that of the 28mm summicron 12451 hood. Congratulations on your new MP. andybarton Posted April 23, 2011 Author Share #25 Posted April 23, 2011 The 12504 has vents and it's not a problem.
Nick_S Posted April 23, 2011 Share #26 Posted April 23, 2011 The 12504 has vents and it's not a problem. Okay, thanks. I better try and get this one, and maybe the 12585 hood, to try before I modify the rectangular one.
Xmas Posted April 23, 2011 Share #27 Posted April 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) The 12504 has vents and it's not a problem. Hi The amplify Andys discription the 12504 is a reversed cone mainly all vents, it separates on screw threads for series 7 filter (or low profile normal 49mm screw in filters) and can be rotated when fitted with a pola (note a normal 49mm screw pola wont fit). Master stroke to use a generic clip in on lens though. If you have an early SC 35mm preasph Lux the 12526 is better as it controls the flare you will other wise get to a degree, it does not vignette noticably on film. It make the lux a normal lens, YMMV... Noel
Nick_S Posted April 23, 2011 Share #28 Posted April 23, 2011 If you have an early SC 35mm preasph Lux the 12526 is better Noel, I have the current 35mm asph summicron. The 12504 hood looks good, but it would mean getting another set of filters. Nick
Xmas Posted April 23, 2011 Share #29 Posted April 23, 2011 Noel, I have the current 35mm asph summicron. The 12504 hood looks good, but it would mean getting another set of filters. Nick Hi Nick No the 39mm screw in can still be used, you have the option is also using series 7 (or low profile 49mms). Noel P.S. Sure Andy will be using 39mms
andybarton Posted April 23, 2011 Author Share #30 Posted April 23, 2011 All (both) of my M lenses are 39mm diameter. My next one will be too.
Nick_S Posted April 23, 2011 Share #31 Posted April 23, 2011 Okay, that is good news about the 12504 hood taking a choice of filter sizes. Both lenses (35 and 50mm) of mine are 39mm filter thread too. I plan to get a macro 90 elmar next, or perhaps a nice 21mm f4 super angulon (if I come across one). Small is beautiful... Xmas Posted April 23, 2011 Share #32 Posted April 23, 2011 Hi Nick The screw in 39mm fits on the lens as normal. The clip on hood unscrews into two pieces so that the series filter (you drop in) is some way forward on the 39mm screw in, when the hood is mounted on the lens. I think if the 39mm screw in is normal it will clear any series filter so you can use two dissimilar sized filters at the same time, but you would need to check. The series filter is only shaded by the front part of the hood (not very deep) so it is undesirable to use it, for glare effect hazard. Either hood is expensive. Noel P.S. the f/3.4 is a better lens
andybarton Posted April 23, 2011 Author Share #33 Posted April 23, 2011 I can't believe how much Leica lens hoods go for. A 12504 can easily be over £100. It's ridiculous.
Xmas Posted April 23, 2011 Share #34 Posted April 23, 2011 Hi Andy Yes sigh I don't know if the 12504 is available new but even beaten up used is well expensive. The 12526 are well over a large note new... Don't loose the flat hood cap either. The precursor plastic equivalents may be cheaper, than the modern 'rubber'. Dont know if the heavystar(?) 39mm screw in inverted 'clones' for the 5cm would vignette on the 35mm crons, they are cheap. I can bring mine on the next outing, I dont have a 35mm cron only a preasp lux, with no filter threads. Noel
Archiver Posted April 24, 2011 Share #35 Posted April 24, 2011 Congratulations, Andy. If you can run the M7 and MP at the same time, all the better. Last night I dreamed that I was holding a MP with a black collapsible lens, but I forgot it soon after awakening. Your post only just reminded me of that. Guest Holy Moly Posted April 25, 2011 Share #40 Posted April 25, 2011 Hi Andy and congratulation! Two years ago when I was on my black MP trip you wrote about a black Leicavit at Red Dot Camera and I bought it. Together with the black paint 50mm Lux with brass body, this combo was much too heavy. instruments | Flickr - Photo Sharing! But, hey, now you can utilize the cover of the battery compartment if needed....... Cheers Bernd
