Hello folks. Found the forum through Leica's website and am happy to be here, already found a mine of information!

I purchased last year from my local Leica camera store a mint condition used D-Lux3 and have been loving using it.. So much so that I have just ordered a D-Lux 5 as I know I will find the features and fast lens (not a fan of flash!) very useful.

I will be using my camera for mainly pleasure though I do write articles for magazines so will also be using it for illustrating them as well.

My "3" came with the lovely leather fitted case and I am wondering if said case will also fit the "5"?

If not I will just sell it with the "3" and get the new case.

Thanks in advance and once again, great to be here and thanks for all the useful information thus far!

Regards.

Ian

Hi and welcome!

Unfortunately, the DLuxes seem to keep growing, with the DLux 4 being bigger than the DLux 3, and the DLux 5 (with its raised hotshoe) a bit bigger still. You'll need to buy a new case.

Have fun with your new DLux - there are lots of improvements over the DLux 3.

Thanks so much for the welcome and speedy response! I was afraid that would be the case(no pun intended!) Ah well, whomever buys my 3 will have a nice case to go with it!

Hello Ian and welcome to the Forum!

The case question is answered. Your new camera should be perfect for illustrating articles. The DL5 has an improved lens and the zoom reaches 90mm which is very useful for portraits. I often use mine on Av with f/2 set so as to give me better control over shallow depth of field. It is a very versatile little camera within its specification.

Thanks so much for the advice wda, that is one of the features I am most looking forward to usings as well as the wider end as well as I am in the Canadian Rockies quite a bit and wide angle with that scenery.. Well you can imagine!

I am an expat living in Canada. I grew up in Devon, not far from you, love Whiltshire, such a beautiful county!

Shandy,

Welcome to the forum!

It's true that the models are gradually increasing in size (aren't we all?:o) and the D-Lux 5 won't fit into the D-Lux 3's leather case, I still have my D-Lux 4's leather case and my D-Lux 5 fits into that - snugly.

I mention this because the D-Lux 5's leather case is different to the D-Lux 4, 3, and 2's leather cases and is a deeper brown and a different shape. If you prefer, as I do, the lighter tan case then it can be done without resorting to the very poor knock-off copies on that online auction site.

Pete.
