matlep Posted April 14, 2011 Share #1 Posted April 14, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know there aren´t any Leica lens profiles in Lightroom yet. But i saw that there was some for Ziess lenses, but i guess those are for CanNikon cameras. Anyways i tried using the Ziess Planar 50 1.4 ZF lens profile on a picture taken with the Summilux 50 ASPH. And i think it gives decent results. I´ve tired googling for actual numbers for the different lenses regarding vignetting and distortion but i could find any to compare. Anyone who knows if they are similar? Attached below is an example with and without profile. It pretty much cleans up the vignetting and it affects the distortion. But i´m to novice to see if it corrects the distortion right or wrong. Any input? Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Hi matlep, Take a look here Lensprofiles in Lightroom for Leica lenses. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pop Posted April 14, 2011 Share #2 Posted April 14, 2011 If you took an image of something where you can spot if it's distorted, you could answer that question much better. It has become customary to take pictures of brick walls, I believe, for that reason.
matlep Posted April 14, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted April 14, 2011 If you took an image of something where you can spot if it's distorted, you could answer that question much better. It has become customary to take pictures of brick walls, I believe, for that reason. True, but brick walls are so boring I´ll guess it is better to build real lens profiles with the tool from adobe. If anyone knows any actual numbers on distortion on the Summilux it would be appreciated. Edit: Found som info on Erwin Puts site regarding the Summilux 50 ASPH: Distortion is just visible, but not of relevance for most scenes, unless you do reproduction. jpattison Posted April 28, 2011 Share #4 Posted April 28, 2011 It does seem to improve the image. Well found! More research required, as you say. Regards, John
01af Posted April 28, 2011 Share #5 Posted April 28, 2011 I just cannot understand why Leica provides X1, M9, and S2 customers with Lightroom as their raw conversion software but fails to provide proper lens profiles—unlike Sigma who did it for all their lenses. Lens makers don't need to go through the tedious procedure of creating a lens profile via ALPC (Adobe Lens Profile Creator); instead they can create the profiles directly by picking the numbers from their lens design blueprints. Those who are using Photoshop can download the ALPA Lens Corrector plug-in which primarily is targeted at the users of digital medium-format backs but also includes profiles for all current Leica M lenses (and for a few discontinued ones) and even some Zeiss ZM lenses. However this plug-in addresses infinity-focus distortion only, no close-range distortion or vignetting.
gdb Posted April 29, 2011 Share #6 Posted April 29, 2011 In the last release of Lightroom (3.4), the profiles of three lenses of the S2 are available: 35mm, 70mm, and 120mm Summarits are referenced. Gérard
