A lighter side of Japan for a change

What with all the bad stuff going on here, I figured it might be nice to share something a little less doom and gloom.

It's currently the peak of the cherry blossom season, so hope these bring some enjoyment. The buzzword in the media at the moment is "jishuku", which is a kind of intentional reining in of oneself. In other words, because of the disaster up in the north, people feel it would be somewhat inappropriate to be wildly celebrating the opening up of the blossoms (and normally, they go beserk and get very drunk).

Either which way, whenever the blossoms come out the country takes on a different feeling.

We also get to enjoy the beautiful blossoms in many U.S. cities, thanks to generous gifts from Japan over the years. The trees recently reached their peak on the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC.

Our thoughts are especially with your country this year.

Jeff

Some lovely shots there. However, many of us will not click through without incentive to do so. I recommend in the future that you place at least one or two images directly here on the Forum.

Yeah, I should, but the first time I tried it confused me, with all the resizing and stuff. I need to learn how to do it without tearing my hair out.
