missmarvell Posted April 12, 2011 Share #1 Posted April 12, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have some questions regarding some settings.Usually in manual mode. the shutter speed's range is between 60 to 1/4000. But why is it in shutter priority, the lowest I can go to is only 8? Its quite limiting. And also I've noticed in Aperture priority and Shutter priority, the dial controls 2 things, aperture/shutter speed respectively AND EXPOSURE COMPENSATION (or atleast I think this is what its called). Is there a way for me to control the exposure compensation in manual mode? It would really like to hear what you guys have to say. Thank you
Advertisement Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Hi missmarvell, Take a look here Playing around with the D-lux 5. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cernobila Posted April 13, 2011 Share #2 Posted April 13, 2011 I am not sure if this will be helpful but most answers to your questions are on pages 80 to 83 in the downloaded detailed D Lux 5 instructions.
macjim Posted April 13, 2011 Share #3 Posted April 13, 2011 Can I suggest a very good book to help you with using the D-Lux5. It's the photographers guide to the Leica D-Lux 5 by Alexander S White available through amazon, either as an PDF book or in hard copy too. I've not tried what you have asked so I'm unable to answer The question but I thought this might help you.
macjim Posted April 13, 2011 Share #4 Posted April 13, 2011 Just had a look at the book I mentioned and it says, in M manual mode before you set the Aperture and speed, half press the shutter and the +/- will appear to allow you to change the compensation. farnz Posted April 13, 2011 Share #5 Posted April 13, 2011 ... Is there a way for me to control the exposure compensation in manual mode? ... Unfortunately not, and there's a good reason why. In manual mode you are making the decision about shutter speed and aperture so you are able to compensate for exposure by deliberately ignoring what the DL5's meter is telling you. In manual mode you have the horizontal line with the hatched lines at the bottom of the screen, which is the light meter telling you whether your picture's over- or under-exposed. If your picture is correctly exposed the red line will be at zero. So, if you want to under-expose by, say, 2 stops, then change the shutter speed and/or aperture so the the red line is at -2. This is manual exposure compensation. Likewise if you want to overexpose by 1 stop then adjust the aperture and/or shutter speed until the red line is at +1. Pete. Alexander White's book, Manual Exposure Mode page 63, 2nd paragraph reads "You no longer can control exposure compensation, because that would be of no use when you're already controlling exposure manually."
