Biogon 21mm 2.8 on M8 - good?

Still in two minds over the Digilux 2, so I'm idly browsing the auction sites and found the above lens going for a reasonable asking price. By all accounts, the IQ from this lens is excellent and definitely comparable to Leica's own lenses.

The 21mm Biogon appears to take a 46mm filter (which Leica are apparently going to send me once I send them proof of purchase), so that sorts out the magenta thing.

The only other issue is coding. To what extent is it necessary? Can it be done with non-Leica lenses? I am not at all au fait with this process.

I've only had my M8.2 for a month, but this has quickly become my favorite lens. On the M8 it approximates a 28mm, and you can visualize outside the 24mm frame lines to get a pretty good idea of composition. Very sharp and very contrasty in my opinion, but I will defer to those with more time behind this lens.

I bought mine from Popflash with the mount modified to bring up the 28/35 frame lines on the M8. If the mount doesn't bring up the 28mm frame lines it is not possible to have a 6-bit code recognized. The lens I received had a recessed groove around the mount that has worked very well for coding with the Match Technical kit. I also use a 46mm B+W UV/IR cut filter, and with the lens coded as a Elmarit-M 21mm f/2.8 ASPH have been very happy with the results.

I also have the Zeiss 50/1.5 Sonnar and it uses the same filter size and hood as the 21/2.8. The hood is all metal, high quality, and clicks into place the lens very smartly.

How useable is this lens on the M8 without the coding and post-process with Cornerfix?

I'm seriously considering getting one and use it as is, without going through the trouble changing the lens flange and doing the coding.

M8 with a 21 biogon coded as a 21 Elmarit pre ASPH but without a UVIR filter (opps, it was on my 90). From yesterday's shoot.
