Asian elephants in Sri Lanka are a bit smaller than other Asian elephants (not counting the smaller still pygmy elephants of Borneo), but like all elephant species, the extended family of aunts and older siblings help teach and care for the younger members of the herd. This little guy could barely control his trunk, but he’ll learn.

Beautiful capture Stuart.

 

We can see on the first picture , the boost and "trunk" of the mother elephant

The 3rd photo is also expressive, little elephant tracking behind his mother...

Great pictures especially the first one with the Mom elephant giving the baby a boost start. Excellent framing, colors and sharpness.

Stuart, do they have much trouble with poachers in that locale?
