Intermittent M9 LCD Navigation Malfunction

I like to shoot the M9 on a tripod with exposure bracketing.

I have the M9 set to permanently display the images for review on the LCD screen until I decide otherwise.

To ensure precise framing I zoom in on the LCD display and move up or down and left or right.

That mostly works. Up and down always works correctly - so far.

However, occasionally when zoomed in and pressing the left or right direction buttons,

the M9 doesn't navigate but instead flips through neighboring frames.

This misbehavior then continues for a long time and I finally give up checking after 5 or 10 minutes.

This happens although I am not keeping the Play button pressed.

On page 151 and 152 of the M9 Instruction Manual it states:

"• While an enlarged picture is displayed, the direction

buttons are no longer available to open other pictures,

instead they are used to “navigate” within the

picture. (Exception: see next note).

Note:

You can also switch from an enlarged picture directly

to another picture, which will then be shown at the

same enlargement. To do this press the left or right

direction button again – keeping the PLAY button

(1.26) pressed."

Has anyone else observed this behavior?

Is this a FW bug or is the M9 misbehaving intermittently electronically?

In the last couple of days the intermittent problem showed up at least once a day when it was getting cooler in the evening.

How well is Leica handling intermittent problems?

I think I saw a post recently where a user had sent in his camera twice for a different intermittent issue without Leica being able to correct the problem.

I am using a 16 GB SanDisk Extreme card that never gave me any problems.

Any advice you can give will be appreciated. Thanks.

Best, K-H.

I had this same issue with my second body, too.

Have the third for only a few weeks now, but didn't run into this so far (I think).

But if that would be the only flaw I'd be more than happy :o

Kind regards.

Hi Bart,

Many thanks for the feedback. I didn't say it was the only issue.

Question: What else was wrong with your camera? What did you/Leica do about it?

Best, K-H.

Apart from the navigation issue there was black frames, dead pixels, RF misalignment and after the previous visit a little nick on the top plate right under the VF.

Kind regards.
