matlep Posted March 29, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted March 29, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was just today going through some pictures taken with my newly acquired Summilux 35 Asph (Not the latest model, but the one before). I have only shot with this lens for two days, but when i went through the i find the pictures to have a slightly different color rendition than my Summicron 35 Asph (Which i traded for this lens) Â Is it just my imagination? But i always thought that i got a subtle green/yellow cast on my Summicron pictures, but now with this Summilux it is not there, and the reds are a bit richer also. Â The only difference is the lenses, camera (M9) and other hardware is the same. Â Problarbly gonna be slammed in the head for this one but I have to ask.... If i still had both lenses i would just have made a simple shoot out.

rickp13 Posted March 29, 2011 Share #3  Posted March 29, 2011 some differences in color rendition are mentioned in this article by adan. have a look here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/45854-praise-mandler-lenses.html  rick
adan Posted March 30, 2011 Share #4  Posted March 30, 2011 Go here. Download .pdf document "Le-ca M-Lenses - Their Soul and Secrets"  Leica Camera AG - Downloads  According to the gray chart on page 19 by the pdf numbering (page 18 by the printed numbers) - the f/1.4 ASPH is one unit greener and 2 units redder than the f/2 ASPH - which is itself 2 units redder than the non ASPH f/1.4. - And the rare "Aspherical" is more yellow than any of the others.  IMHE one of these arbitrary units represents a just-visible difference - provided one is using film with a fixed WB, or uses the same identical WB settings for digital.  I definitely can see it if I use one of the Mandler (c. 1980 Leitz-Canada) designs that really de-emphasize red. Either "2" for the red value or "6" for the green value. (21 pre-ASPH, 28 "previous," 50 f/1.4 pre-ASPH, 75 'lux)  In fact, that extra green, or minus-red, is what drew me to Leica over the Zeiss/Kyocera Contax lenses, which are even redder yet.
