i would be more then happy with a stiff 2.0 lens with rings for focus and aperture and a high res OLED Display. THe IQ is already nearly perfect and the size as well so this would make the camera perfect for me. Its like a small M8 with fixed lens and without the complex range finder system. A full frame would be nice but they cant do it for that price i guess

Assuming the x2 doesn't get full frame, the only way I'd consider one is at a diff focal length. Not sure I see tht happening. Wnder what they ARE considering for x2. Maybe a 1.3 crop or ff.

i am hoping for f2.0 with a better manual focus option - i doubt ff - it would cannabilize m9/10 sales

Hope it's going to be great as we're waiting too long. So long that many X1 users and potential X1 buyers are already turning towards X100.

And where are they going to get them, pray tell? Fuji has halted production due to earthquake/tsunami damage to the factory.

I'll add to that the question that got me temp banned from dpreview ..this is a question, not an assertion.

Do you believe fuji when they say the tsunami is the reson for further delay and that this is the only Product they make that is delayed, given they already pushed the date back twice? Would it change your plans for buying a device if you concluded they used tis disaster as an excuse?

(apparently asking a question at dpreview instead of being sat in front of the tele crying is reason for banning)

you know everyone (myself included) has assumed that all Leica is doing is some firmware update/bug fixes etc. what if they were starting from scratch and rebuilding the firmware from square 1 "so to speak". if that were the case- i want them to test the firmware for as long as it takes....

you are sounding just like my wife- anytime i mention the x100 she calls it "vaporware" and overhyped i am beginning to believe that the 2 of you are right.

i had read someplace that nikon has a plant / distribution center that was located in the tsunami zone- i haven't heard of any nikon shortages or delays . . . it does make one wonder

I'm surprised they had a factory located away from the other factories whose sole purpose was x100 production. Usually there are multiple products made in one factory or they are clustered, no?

I don't know if it's vaporware, but I did say when it was announced there was no way they would ship in march based on the state of the 'prototype' at PK.

Fwiw, my preorder is still in, adorama and amazon have no idea when they are coming, and fujiguys on twitter (fuji employees) state there's a shipment arriving.

Well some stocks have shipped to some places. Aaaww... didn't America get it first this tme?

Fuji's factory was affected, there's a fair chance that many of their suppliers have been affected, ports on the east side (where stocks may have been waiting for shipping) have been wiped out, factories have closed because of the sheer difficulties of transport and communications, there are power cuts, there's total disruption everywhere and who knows where the nuclear exclusion zone may end up.

Frankly considering what these people are going through, I don't feel there is a place for such cynical thinking here.

Be prepared for delays and shortages in all industry sectors - and count yourselves lucky!

Apparently I should have bolded that, and posted a self portrait crying in front of a television depicting images of horror around the world.

It's possible to have more than one thought about a situation fwiw. Curiosity about aspects of camera gear as a result of a disaster does not preclude sorrow for the people of Japan.

You are aware I don't care who gets what first? It's not available in any number in the uk afik.. My family there have not received theirs.

Finally, I completely understand about the disruption of service, which led to my other question about how only one product is delayed.

A good friend who was among the first to get his order in @ B+H received this today.

Also, I am joining in with the off topic banter solely because I feel I have pertinent information, that will in the end effect when our anticipated firmware will be released...

I don't buy the "it's not ready" BS....

FUJIFILM FinePix X100

Dear Valued Customer:

B&H received the following note regarding availability of the Fujifilm FinePix X100 today from Fujifilm USA. We regret any inconvenience this may cause. We are mindful, though, of Japan's human tragedy, which is ongoing and will remain so for some time. Lives are lost and families are homeless on a scale which seems, from news reports, as great or greater than any natural disaster in memory.

FUJIFILM FinePix X100 Statement

March 16, 2011

Due to the March 11th earthquake that affected northeast Japan, the factory responsible for production of the new Fujifilm FinePix X100 digital camera has been temporarily shut down due to safety concerns. FUJIFILM is currently assessing the factory conditions as well as accessibility via domestic logistics and working to determine the potential impact on the X100 market availability and initially scheduled release dates. FUJIFILM is making every effort to quickly gather the information needed to provide an accurate update to our retail partners and consumers. FUJIFILM appreciates your patience and will provide a formal update as soon as possible.

We understand that under the circumstances you may wish to consider canceling your order; if you do, a full refund will be issued. If you would like to cancel your order, please reply to this message with your instruction to cancel.

B&H Photo regrets this inconvenience and appreciates your patronage and understanding.

Sincerely,

B&H Photo-Video, and Pro-Audio

Germany doesn't have earthquakes or tsunamis.

Apparently not very proficient camera firmware developers either.

Hi,

I was last month at the factory in Solms, and asked taquestion when the new Firmware for the X1 will be released.

The answer from the manager was just a smile, and he said something like this: "I cannot say something about this" after 20 seconds of silence between my question and the answer.

Also interesting to know, Leica produces between 80 and 100 M9's per day, the number of other pieces, I do not remember anymore......

Very interesting factory tour!!

John
