neves43 Posted March 23, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) -My first contact with cameras was in the late fifties when my father arrived home with a nice Petri. At the time shooting slides was a must. -Later on i got the feeling for photo and almost every year i was buying a brand new camera. -That´s when i decided to stop and buy a camera forever. The option was Leica. So i bought a Leica M8.2. -I was for 2 and 1/2 years a happy Leica owner despite the price i had to pay. -Today i found my camera with a counter wich doesnt work (remains all the time showing 9999).Besides that the LCD monitor has a brown circle wich i thought could be dust on the sensor, however after a cleaning it, its still there. -I have to say both things dont affect the picture quality, but for a Leica those "minor" things are not acceptable. Advertisement Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Hi neves43, Take a look here Disappointed with M8.2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted March 23, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 23, 2011 I'm guessing you're shooting Jpegs. The counter is showing 9999 because the free capacity on the card is estimated to hold more that 9999 files. You'll see the number decrease when there's room for less than 9999 photographs. Switch to DNG and you should see a smaller number appear.

Jeff S Posted March 23, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 23, 2011 The "coffee stain" LCD issue (if that is what you have) has been well reported here; the search function will pull up many threads. You might want to contact Leica to see if they will cover the repair, in which case they'll probably check other things as well. Jeff

Gerard Posted March 24, 2011 Share #6 Posted March 24, 2011 Before you decide to send your camera off. Be aware the 'coffee ring' does not affect performance, can only really be seen when chimping blue skies and the like, and has been known to disappear as quickly as it arrived. Mine did. There is a good chance that the stained LCD will be replaced under warranty. It is a well-known fault and I suggest it is worthwhile having it fixed to avoid devaluation if/when you come to sell the camera. Although it doesn't affect the final picture, it is an irritant when studying a recent shot.
Jeff S Posted March 24, 2011 Share #8 Posted March 24, 2011 Plus, as I said, Leica service will likely check everything else for proper working order at the same time. Jeff

farnz Posted March 24, 2011 Share #10 Posted March 24, 2011 ... -Today i found my camera with a counter wich doesnt work (remains all the time showing 9999).... . If this is correct then you have a very valuable camera because it's the only M8.2 on the planet that shows 9999. The frame counter only has 3 digits and the largest number it can show is 999. A large capacity SD card will record many more than 1,000 shots, which is why your frame counter always shows 999. If you want to test it then insert a low capacity SD card, say 2 MB, and the frame counter will show less than 999. Pete.
