tuanvo1982 Posted March 23, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Once, I turn my M8 body around (up/down/over) I hear a small sound like clock sound. It is not loud then you need to focus on but I am wondering what it is. Maybe the thing to let camera know the angle of camera. Do you hear somethings? Advertisement Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Hi tuanvo1982, Take a look here Do you hear any sound when turn your M8 around?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Nicoleica Posted March 23, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 23, 2011 Was a lens attached when you did this? On some lenses, the aperture blades have been known to make a slight rattling sound when shaken. Another possibility could be the strap fittings. (Or it could be all of your Imp's china falling out of his dresser as you turn his home upside-down.) jaapv Posted March 23, 2011 Share #3 Posted March 23, 2011 I seem to recall that the camera has a mechanical orientation sensor (Mark? ) which may-just- produce a minisound.
SJP Posted March 23, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 23, 2011 The only sound I hear with Leica stuff is a hissing sound from my bank account:D

I think it has a mechanical orientation sensor. Actually, it is mini-sound, if you keep body nearly your ears then turn it around or shake it, I am sure that we can hear somethings. I already take all stuff off (lens, strap even battery and SD ) but I still hear that. I think Leica has its HEART hehe )
marknorton Posted March 23, 2011 Share #6 Posted March 23, 2011 Yes, it's the orientation sensor on the DSP board. This has a V shaped groove in it with a small ball bearing rolling in it and tells the camera whether it is horizontal, left side down or right side down. The ball bearing changes the inductance of a coil from which the camera can determine the orientation.

marknorton Posted March 23, 2011 Share #8 Posted March 23, 2011 Correction, it's not a ball bearing, it's a tiny cylindrical shaped magnet.
