Just picked up a 50mm Summilux E43

I am amazed by how much time this lens is staying on my M9. I've always liked a little wider view and my 35mm was usually on the camera because I couldn't find my favorite, a 40mm Tessar on my Rollie35. My new (used) 50mm lux is surprising me a lot. I can see my dream of a camera and two lenses is fading fast and I'll be looking for a new gadget bag !!

 

I only got it because it was reasonable and you guys were talking it up. Have any of you picked up a lens that really surprised you?

 

By the way, for you folks who are still hung up on film you should give the Rollie 35 S a close look. It's a phenominal camera. I have sold at least 30 cameras in my lifetime but never ever thought of parting with my Rollie. I still have it but don't use it.

 

 

edited to correct: I just dug it out of closet and it's a Rollie 35.....no S. It has a Carl Zeiss 40mm f 3.5 Tessar, a meter movement made by Gossen and a Copal X shutter from Japan. It has the collapsible lens. Serial number is 31007xx. Now back to my 50mm lux and out the door

If you love the 40mm field of view, look for a 40 mm f2.0 Summicron-C, or the (optically identical) 40 mm f 2.0 M-Rokkor.

 

It is a very sharp lens made for the CL. The M9 does not have 40 mm frame lines, but it's a little less than the 35 mm, and somewhat more than the 50 mm frame lines. It brings up the 50 mm framelines when mounted on an M. You'll get used to guessing the field of view rather easily.
