Advertisement Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Hi patrick parker, Take a look here March 18 and no firmware yet. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tom0511 Posted March 25, 2011 Share #82 Â Posted March 25, 2011 One big advantage of the x1 besides being the smalles and lightest DX-sensor camera with a 35mm prime (the NEx-prime I dont find usefull) is that while the AF is slow it is very accurate and with spot-AF the AF-point is pretty small. This helps alot for example to exactly focus on the eye when doing a portrait. The size of the focus point in the EP2 forexample is quite a bit bigger and while its faster you cant place it as safe. When I got the x1 some months ago I first wanted to sell it (after 1 week). I ended up keeping it and now I realize that I have taken many nice images with it. In 90% I prefer the x1 over my EP2 and G11. Besides IQ the simple user interface is one more reason for that. Â On the other side I really wait badly for improved AF performance which should make the camera even better. I hope it doesnt affect AF accurancy though. Danielsan Posted March 25, 2011 Share #83 Â Posted March 25, 2011 I hope it doesnt affect AF accurancy though. Â i agree, maybe Leica desperately want to improve focus speed incited by all the ppl here and the end of the game is a fast but not accurate AF, im happy with the current speed cause im not a pro and im not into sport photography. Allnm Posted March 25, 2011 Share #84 Â Posted March 25, 2011 Looks like V2 is getting nearer, unless this thread is a wind up..... Â See here.....FIRMWARE 2 THREAD Â Looks like they are addressing more than the AF..... Â Allan
JeTexas Posted March 25, 2011 Share #85  Posted March 25, 2011 Hmmm... seems he still had to crop his close-ups, so I guess Macro focus is not improved. All sizes | LeicaX1_ISO100_F28_11 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!  Edit: I take that back. It seems he posted everything no larger than 1600 x 1070, so it's impossible to know if he cropped or not.  Looks like V2 is getting nearer, unless this thread is a wind up..... See here.....FIRMWARE 2 THREAD  Looks like they are addressing more than the AF.....  Allan
h00ligan Posted March 25, 2011 Share #86 Â Posted March 25, 2011 I'll believe it when I see it. For now it's someone on the Internet saying something. That's not to say I don't believe, but we saw a shot months ago...soooo...
Danielsan Posted March 25, 2011 Share #87 Â Posted March 25, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) so I guess Macro focus is not improved. honestly, it seems your expectations are a bit high. Do you really believe that the Lens can be fixed in a "half way out" position for macro photography? You can do something with a firmware update but you cant invent a new camera. The hardware is always the limit. Oh and dont believe everything you read, maybe its a hoax

I checked on one of my pics and it clearly shows 1.0. I think the germane question is the on you asked him on the other thread; "Where did you get it"... Allnm Posted March 25, 2011 Share #91 Â Posted March 25, 2011 I just heard the firmware is coming out on Tuesday 29th March. Lots of AF improvements and improvements in jpegs to name but a few. Cant name my source other than its a company who's name starts with L and is based in Germany! Damn! Just when I was getting used to mine too........ peekpt Posted March 25, 2011 Share #92  Posted March 25, 2011 I check the Exif too, I don't think someone will change all Exifs just for fun  I bought my camera this week and besides the slow AF I'm loving it, I own a d90 and i can't get that quality as good as I get on Leica.  The firmware it's just an improvement of the great camera that X1 already is!  Be patient

h00ligan Posted March 25, 2011 Share #97 Â Posted March 25, 2011 Well, I have to say. I'm surprised x1 files are more malleable than 5d2 files..by a landslide.
earful Posted March 25, 2011 Share #98  Posted March 25, 2011 He'll not be given early access next time... Breaking an NDA is serious stuff.   how do we know it wasn't a strategic leak by leica? that's been done before, too, at least by other companies.  not that i was going to sell my x1, but i will say that knowing there is an update coming was a factor in my decision to buy in the first place. kuau Posted March 26, 2011 Share #100  Posted March 26, 2011 Well I just purchased Edwards X1, received it today, and I am also excited about new firmware that will hopefully come out soon, though for me, already owning both a M9, and a Pentax 645D, I wanted the smallest high quality camera on the market, and I still think the X1 is it, I was also thinking about the Fuji option., but when I saw the size of it, to me it was to big, and I might as well shoot my M9. So I am happy with my decision. I love my new / used X1, and I agree with other posts I have read here, I think a lot of X1 users will jump ship to Fuji but I bet most of them will all come back to the Leica Camp,  Steven  ps I attached a picture of my "little baby leica" with the optional viewfinder, grip, leather hand grip and Len Coat case.
