I recall that the digilux2 had exactly 1 upgrade and that upgrade took quite some time after product launch to be released and I don't think any of the clux's have had any firmware changes, the dlux4 had 1 1/2 (one upgrade and a do over to fix the upgrade. I am sure Leica doesn't want to revisit that experience.
They are all Panasonic based cameras...........

Well, considering the Leica X1 digiscoping adapter, which was announced in what, August last year(?), and was supposedly available "very soon" is just now showing up available for pre-order and still has no delivery date, doesn't stoke the fires of confidence in regard to delivery of firmware any time soon.

Leica rushed out all the simple accessories like handgrips, cases, etc. but have you noticed that they have completely avoided anything in regard to actual photography and optics? I mean, it seems like a simple adapter to mount the camera to pre-existing spotting scopes shouldn't be hard. I've built macro and teleconverters at home. I can tell you that engineering those isn't that difficult either.

I get the feeling they either want the X1 to remain strictly in the hobbyist compact arena or it's a dead product line.

I can't see either scenario. I don't think they care who uses the camera as long as they can pay for it. I don't think they would have introduced the black X1 if it is dead.

I don't know. The X1 is supposedly the "reporters camera" yet LFI doesn't allow it as part of their photo story contests -- only Ms.

I'm REALLY starting to get the feeling that Leica doesn't want you taking photos of anything except your pets and vacation with the X1 because it endangers M sales.

Either that or they're making such an amazing profit from the S2 that all of their engineers are focused on that rather than their other product lines since that's the only camera that seems to get any updates.

Well, it seems my x1 is sold. Maybe if I read reports of fantastic speed improvements I'll get another one back second hand. ..or wait for an x2... Or save for the m9.

That said I'm excited that my 5d2 will be arriving any minute now. The x1 funds are going into a 35L I think.

Meanwhile, I'll be keeping the gf1 for a small pocket cam. Works great in decent light..though I may sell the body and get the epl2 with kit lens for a small cam. That said any substantial spending is going into pro gear now, as a path/plan. I've already got some (admittedly thankless but paying) jobs lined up.

And honestly at the end of it, I cant see the firmware really fixing much, it would be out by now if it did.

X100 is also off the books for now. Maybe when they flood the market used, but for now, don't think so.

So! I'll continue to come in and read..and I really hope the forward works winders for you all! I may get. Second hand pannyleica 45 then I can keep posting in leica groups :)

Well, isn't that why they killed the CL not all that long ago?:rolleyes:
