Reminds me of the old ad: we will sell no wine before its time. Frankly I'm rather pleased Leica hasn't released the new firmware yet. It means they are tweaking or improving the firmware. Be assured when it's released it will be terrific :D. Actually the firmware updates for the M8 were timely and accurate. I stopped downloading new firmware after the second upgrade because they fixed the items that affected my photography, there was no need for me to bother with any upgrades after that one.

What makes you think they are still tweaking and testing? There could be other reasons it isn't out yet. A) they want to see that fuji doesn't copy them. B) they want to copy fuji c) they want to try and steal thunder from fuji.

Just saying, lack of release in no way indicates active improvement, were that true, it would be firmware 3.0 by now.

I'm sure that Leica already have several X100s and will be working on taking one apart, seeing how they have made it and picking up ideas for an X2.

I seriously doubt that they have held back firmware to try to spoil Fuji's party. The launch of firmware isn't going to get a nearly 2 year old camera on the front of all the amateur photo mags round the world. A brand new camera will.

I'm not sure what there is for Fuji to copy from firmware, but if they don't want it copied they will -never- release it.

Leica seem to have no reason not to release it, other than it hasn't improved anything, doesn't work at all or makes something worse. They will release it when they are completely satisfied with it and not before.

Note that there hasn't been an M9 firmware update for months either.

The M9 had its share of FW upgrades, as had the S2. The X1 however.......

I recall that the digilux2 had exactly 1 upgrade and that upgrade took quite some time after product launch to be released and I don't think any of the clux's have had any firmware changes, the dlux4 had 1 1/2 (one upgrade and a do over to fix the upgrade. I am sure Leica doesn't want to revisit that experience.
