jcrutcher Posted April 3, 2011 Share #21 Posted April 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think the D-Lux 5 is very good in low light. I use manual focus and manual aperature/shutter speed. This first shot was at ISO 800 through a window. The second was ISO 1600. Both shot in Raw with little PP in LR3. B&W is my favorite so I'm not sure what color would have looked like 1/15 F2.3 ISO 800 "]1103_untitled_L1000842_00004.jpg by rootbeer2004, on Flickr 1/30 F3.5 ISO 1600 "]L1000652.jpg by rootbeer2004, on Flickr Just for giggles I'll re-look at these in color. A.V. Posted April 6, 2011 Share #22 Posted April 6, 2011 Looks very promising. B&W in Digital - completely NEW area for me -as I am still thinking FILM when it comes to it. Stupid Q: how far from FILM Print is the Digital B&W print nowadays - roughly? Is it coming NEAR the old stuff when printed? I mean - on the SCREEN of a Comp - you dont see much difference - I suppose...but will you see it in print???... i have to investigate on that. Sorry for lack of knowledge. BUT THESE pictures make me think - rather HOPE that B&W is NOT finished for me and may - just MAY - lay ahead somewhere as a proper B&W. Or is it? AV I wd assume printing will very much depend on the PRINTER or smth like that. Camera may do it OK - but Printer? AND Paper?
FrancoisF Posted April 14, 2011 Share #23 Posted April 14, 2011 Almost every review that I have read mentions that the Delux 5 takes superior low light photos; I've even seen pictures here and elsewhere on the net that back this up. Yet I seem to be unable to take low light pictures that are any better than other cameras I've used; they still tend to look dim, murky and underexposed. Although not a professional, I am not a beginner when it comes to photography. In this situation I would normally slow the shutter speed, open the lens up, increase the iso and use a tripod. I am still doing all of the above minus the tripod. I was expecting better images. I would appreciate it if anyone has any tips or your own experiences shooting in low light. Am I doing something wrong or am I just a victim of hype and unrealistic expectations? Hi Vagabond, I shoot with a D Lux 4 and have no problem with low light; colors are vivid, here attached an hand held picture, taken in Zaragoza (Spain) at 1/50, F/3.2, ISO 200, -1/3. These are very nice! I like the bit of noise like grain that is more evident in the first. I hope you leave them B&W. David
jtori Posted April 15, 2011 Share #25 Posted April 15, 2011 I have found the D-Lux 5 to be reasonably good in low light. While it delivers more noise at higher ISOs than my X1, focus remains fast. Here are a couple of images made with the DL5: Turntable - ISO 80, Exposure 6 secs. @ f8.0; made using the camera's multiple exposure capability. Band - ISO 1600, Exposure 1/40 sec. @ f2.0 Best, Joe. photorx12 Posted June 2, 2011 Share #27 Posted June 2, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just received my D-LUX 5 today and I am very new to all this. So with my limited experience I understand that it will take some time to get the type of quality I desire in my photographs. With that being said, I must admit that i am very impressed with this camera! I have attached the first picture I have taken in the darkest room in my apartment and was amazed how good it came out considering I'm completely new to managing the settings. This pic was taken at (1/6 sec at f/2.0 iso 1600). I am becoming a big fan of B/W photography and night life in dark environments, I look forward to any tips anyone may have. Welcome, dear visitor!
