Planning to use the new Tri-Elmar?

The original question asked if any users would be using this lens on a film body. I answered. If you don't like my answer and reasons that is your problem. I also explained how exactly I use my Lieca's, not for time, composition and thought. I also explained my reasoning that this lens is a compormise for both the film and digital systems that an f4.0 maximum aperature and big external viewfinder. Now if you only photograph in bright sunlight or indoors with flash and don't mind the external viewfinder, this lens may be for you, but it is useless for me. I don't worship at the alter of Leica but evaluate the equipment for my needs. Not everything that comes from Lieca is useful to me. I have learned to be objective. -Dick

A reasonable response but do bear in mind that what was a bit objectionable was the tone of your original response to the original question. With regard to bright sunlight why not if its there and if not then there is the 50mmf1.4 or the 35mmf2 and if both fail to register the 50mm f1.0 is used.As for flash, well,I have one but never quite got the point of it !

Thanks for your replies - I can see it's less of a compelling purchase for film users than for M8 users. I've now received it from Leica and I'm quite taken with it. Smaller than I remember, the finder is better in its final form than I expected and it gives me back my 21mm EqFov which I've lost to the crop factor.

Of course I'd like more speed, but the Zeiss Distagon hints at what that might cost.

The two Tri-Elmars and something a bit longer like the 75/2 or 90/2.8 make an attractive travel set.

Mark,

Any chance of posting any pictures of the revised viewfinder and lens on the M8 as I am interested in the WATE but I have not seen a production picture of the new viewfinder.

Also how do you add a protective filter to the WATE ie a UVa ?,is it added to the hood?

Cheers

Matthew.
