Forgive me, I have had a rootle around Google.

On the Minilux, I know you cannot default the flash to off. Can you on the Minilux zoom? Also, are they also prone to the E02 malaise?

Ken Rockwell has this to say about that function:

The single useful thing you'll learn from the manual, beside the specs, are that you can program any of the settings of the three control buttons to become the default power-on settings. All you have to do is hold the button in for 3 seconds as you arrive at your preferred setting, and once it starts blinking, it is now set as your default. This is how you program the Minilux never to use flash unless you tell it, for instance. To return to Leica's default values, you have to find the default values and set them this same way.

Otherwise, he seems not enthusiastic about the Minilux zoom.

Afterthought:

The blurb sheet available from the Wiki appears to say that this function is also available on the plain Minilux.

Very interesting... I thought this was one of the big differences with the CM, one of which I had. It's a big deal-breaker for me. Perhaps an owner or two can confirm or deny?

From the wording on p.10 of http://ec1.images-amazon.com/media/i3d/01/A/man-migrate/MANUAL000013586.pdf I infer that you can shut the flash permanently off ("deliberately adding flash" on p. 11 and a similar wording on p.11).

Also, you will be glad to learn that with the Minilux you'll be able to take pictures like a pro. Finally, At last.

...as long as it's not Gary Wingogrand or Anne Geddies, hooray! :D

On the Minilux it is impossible to hold the position flash off; from the moment you switch the camera off and again on, the flash off is forgotten.

The Minilux Zoom remembers the position flash off even when you switch off the camera. Regrettable Leica did not include aperture settings on the Minilux Zoom. That was corrected with the release of the CM Zoom.

The CM Zoom has a manual zoom. The CM and CM Zoom can be set to flash off (permanent).

I still have and use them all. When I give a ranking:

1) CM Zoom (the convenience of a small zoom, silent, small but good viewfinder, general handling)

2) CM (f 2.4, small but good viewfinder, general handling)

3) Minilux Zoom (the convenience of a small zoom (noisy zoom motor), build quality)

4) Minilux (f 2.4, but it remains to that - so the use is limited)

My first Minilux brand new out of the box already had the 02 error. Never had any problems with the Minilux Zoom, CM and CM Zoom.

Must say I'm really impressed with the CM. The 40/2.4 is a really great lens. I would have preferred it to be a 35mm as on the Olympus XA, but I'm learning to work with the 40. The only other thing is the noise from the wind on/back motors, they could have been a little quieter.

Without the save settings feature for the flash mode and +/-EV as well as default self timer delay, the camera would have been a lot less functional.
